General Manager

Description

The General Manager is the operational anchor of Garden State Growers, responsible for overseeing all daily facility, production, and logistical operations. This role ensures that our greenhouse and agricultural facilities run efficiently, safely, and profitably. The General Manager will bridge the gap between high-level strategy and on-the-ground execution, ensuring our cultivation, fulfillment, and distribution teams are fully aligned to meet the demands of our retail partners.

Responsibilities

· Direct and oversee all daily greenhouse operations, ensuring optimal growing conditions, facility maintenance, and workflow efficiency.

· Manage complex production schedules to ensure readiness for seasonal peaks and high-volume fulfillment.

· Oversee and optimize outbound operational logistics, distribution networks, and inventory management systems.

· Ensure rigorous quality control and fulfillment standards are met consistently across all product lines and agricultural commodities.

· Collaborate with cultivation and production managers to optimize propagation, planting, and harvesting cycles for maximum yield and quality.

· Manage labor planning, hiring, and scheduling to accommodate significant seasonal fluctuations in the agricultural cycle.

· Develop, monitor, and manage the facility's operational budget, identifying opportunities to reduce waste, improve profit margins, and streamline the supply chain.

· Ensure strict compliance with all state and federal agricultural, environmental, and workplace safety regulations.

· Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and safety among all onsite staff.

Required Education and Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Horticulture, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related operational field.

· 7-10+ years of senior operational management experience, specifically within a large-scale commercial greenhouse, nursery, or similar.

· Proven track record of managing complex supply chain logistics, distribution, and vendor-managed inventory models.

· Experience overseeing large, diverse teams, including full-time staff and seasonal labor forces.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

· Deep understanding of commercial agricultural production, crop scheduling, and perishable goods logistics.

· Exceptional crisis management and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt quickly to weather, operational, or supply chain disruptions.

· Strong financial acumen with experience managing multi-million dollar operational budgets and capital expenditure projects.

· Excellent cross-functional leadership skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with everyone from greenhouse floor staff to executive leadership.
