About the Role

Description

The Release of Information Specialist is responsible for processing and fulfilling all attorney-requested billing statements and balance verifications through a secure portal. This role ensures accurate, timely, and confidential delivery of patient financial records in compliance with HIPAA and applicable legal and billing guidelines.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Access, review, and process all attorney balance requests and billing statement requests submitted via the designated portal.
• Validate authorization documentation and confirm requestor identity to ensure compliance.
• Generate itemized billing statements reflecting accurate charges, payments, and balances for requested accounts.
• Ensure statements are properly formatted and redacted when necessary to protect PHI.
• Upload completed statements back into the portal within required timeframes.
• Track and log all requests and completions for auditing and reporting purposes.
• Communicate with attorneys, legal offices, and internal departments to resolve any issues or discrepancies.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of patient confidentiality regulations, and internal processes.
• Assist with identifying trends, delays, or compliance risks related to attorney requests.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Familiarity with HIPAA and patient privacy laws
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Proficiency with billing systems and online portals
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills


Education & Experience Requirements

· High School graduate

· 2-3 years of experience in a Data management and/or Analyst role

· 2 years Office experience, preferably working in a Healthcare related setting with some background as a team lead

· Experience with MS Office Suite, electronic medical record systems, preferred.


Work Environment/Physical Demands
• Regular use of a computer and other standard office equipment.
• Position may require extended screen time and repetitive motion.
