Mizell Memorial Hospital first opened its door almost 70 years ago. From a 29-bed facility in 1949, the hospital added a wing in 1957, followed by a new surgical wing in 1963. Growing vertically in 1969 from one to three stories, a new three-bed intensive care unit was also established. Changes throughout the years have included addition of in-house nuclear medical services, Certified Sleep Center, Senior Behavioral Care Unit, and various renovation projects of different areas. In addition to the hospital facility, Mizell also expanded services to include a world class Wellness Center and the addition of the Mizell Medical Clinic for primary care. These changes provide more privacy, streamlined processing, and more convenience for the patients of the hospital. Today, Mizell Memorial Hospital is currently licensed for 99 beds with an operating capacity of 59 beds. The active medical staff consists of physicians and surgeons in family practice, pediatrics, radiology, gynecology, general surgery and orthopedic surgery. About the Role

Description

Job Summary:

The Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner is responsible for managing health problems and coordinating health care for the patient in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations and nursing standards of care. Additionally, he/she is responsible for functioning well as a member of the multidisciplinary team.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Indirect supervision through direction of clinical staff.  


Work Environment:

This position has an OSHA Category I level of exposure to blood and body substances. Category I tasks are all procedures or other job-related tasks involving an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or body tissues or a potential for spills or splashes with blood, body fluids or tissues. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Promptly attends work as scheduled and completes position responsibilities by following established guidelines & protocols within the appropriate time frame.
  • Maintains confidentiality of the patient’s medical condition, personal problems, and medical record.  
  • Shows initiative in completing job responsibilities.
  • Approaches patient/significant other/visitor with a consistent respectful and concerned attitude, always striving for excellent customer service.  
  • Supports MMH and helps to maintain the highest quality healthcare and strives to meet regulatory guidelines.  
  • Ensures quality measures are being met. 
  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical on patients.  
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs. 
  • Involved in diagnosing the patient’s problems and performing treatment to cure them.  
  • May be required to carry out treatments.  
  • Prescribe medications to patients.  
  • Maintains all required certifications/licensures.  
  • Completes annual organizational requirements.  
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.


Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Good computer skills. Proficient with Athena EHR preferred.  
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and manage stress, anger, and potential violence of others appropriately.  


Education and Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and a Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current licensure by Alabama Board of Nursing with no encumbrance history.
  • Current Alabama Controlled Substance Certification preferred.
  • Current DEA certification preferred.  
  • BLS, ACLS, & PALS certification required.  


Physical Requirements

Must be able to walk, stoop, lift/carry up to 15 lbs. Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
