About the Role
Description
The Toyota / Lexus Certified Collision Painter is responsible for performing high-quality refinishing repairs in accordance with manufacturer standards, OEM procedures, and dealership quality expectations. This position ensures all vehicles are restored to pre-accident condition while maintaining production efficiency, safety compliance, and customer satisfaction.
The Painter must consistently meet Toyota and Lexus certification requirements and support a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform all refinish operations in accordance with Toyota and Lexus OEM repair procedures
- Review repair orders, damage reports, and paint specifications prior to beginning work
- Prepare vehicles for paint including sanding, masking, feather-edging, priming, and sealing
- Mix and match paint using computerized color-matching systems
- Apply primers, sealers, basecoat, and clearcoat per manufacturer guidelines
- Perform blend panels and color matching to OEM standards
- Cut, buff, and polish finished panels to achieve factory-quality appearance
- Maintain proper booth cleanliness and equipment condition
- Document materials used and time in accordance with dealership and insurance requirements
- Ensure compliance with EPA, CARB, OSHA, and dealership safety regulations
- Participate in Toyota/Lexus certification training and maintain required credentials
- Assist in maintaining cycle time targets and production flow
- Communicate effectively with estimators, body technicians, and management regarding repair status
Requirements
Required:
- Toyota and/or Lexus Certified Painter (current or eligible for certification)
- 3+ years of automotive collision refinishing experience
- Valid California driver’s license with insurable driving record
- Knowledge of waterborne paint systems
- Ability to read and interpret repair orders and OEM procedures
- Strong attention to detail and quality control standards
Preferred:
- I-CAR certification
- ASE Refinishing Certification (B2)
- Experience in dealership or OEM-certified collision center
- Experience with CCC, Mitchell, or Audatex estimating systems
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Frequent bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 50 lbs.)
- Ability to work in a paint booth environment
- Use of respirator and required personal protective equipment (PPE)
Work Environment
- Fast-paced dealership collision center
- Exposure to paint fumes, dust, and shop noise
- Climate-controlled spray booth
- Compliance with California environmental and workplace safety standards
Performance Expectations
- Meet or exceed established productivity goals (hours per day / per week per pay plan)
- Maintain high CSI and quality scores
- Zero tolerance for safety violations
- Adherence to Toyota and Lexus certification standards
- Minimal rework rate and warranty paint claims
