About the Role

Description

 Schedule:

Ideally, the available options for the days of the week are 2 full days (flexible on days, Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday) 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Implement appropriate procedures for referrals, identification, diagnosis, caseload selection, case termination, and follow up for speech and language services.

• Maintain student therapy schedules based on service minutes outlined in each student’s Individualized Education Program, IEP, adjusting when necessary for evaluations, meetings, or consultations.

• Analyze assessment data to determine the need for speech language services and evaluate how communication impairments impact access to the general curriculum.

• Utilize coordination time for therapy planning, parent conferences, staff consultation, and classroom observations.

• Provide services using appropriate delivery models including classroom intervention, consultation, collaboration, and pull out therapy while supporting the least restrictive environment.

• Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs and required documentation within mandated timelines.

• Complete quarterly progress reports and share updates with parents during conferences or with report cards.

• Maintain student files in accordance with federal, state, and Medicaid documentation requirements.

• Manage therapy materials, equipment, and assistive technology required for service delivery.

• Train staff on Augmentative and Alternative Communication systems, including Words for Life.

• Communicate with teachers regarding student needs and progress and consult with parents as needed.

• Provide referrals for audiological, medical, or related services when appropriate.

• Attend faculty meetings, special education meetings, and parent teacher conferences.

• Supervise speech language interns, paraprofessionals, volunteers, or other assigned support staff when appropriate.

• Complete documentation accurately and maintain confidentiality of all student records.

• Follow professional ethical standards and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

• Perform additional duties as needed to support the Special Education department.


Requirements

Education and Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with Missouri Certification in Speech/Language Pathology K-12
  • Valid MO license to practice in schools
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective leadership and customer relationship skills
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment with initiative in analyzing and solving problems

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree or above with MO Certification in Speech/Language Pathology K-12
  • Experience with working with children with autism and other developmental disabilities
  • Experience supporting alternative student communication systems
  • Experience with and ability to become certified with LAMP (Language Acquisition through Motor Planning)
  • SCM certification
  • First aid/CPR, Abuse/neglect training

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to exert, lift, carry, push/pull up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to demonstrate good balance, object handling, object fingering, feeling, simple hand grasping, firm hand grasping and occasional running or jogging.
