COUNTER SALES ASSOCIATE

Description
OBJECTIVE
The Counter Sales Associate is responsible for assisting contractors and homeowners in selecting and purchasing the appropriate building materials for their projects. This includes answering customer inquiries, processing transactions, preparing quotes and orders, and providing knowledgeable support throughout the sales process.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Sell a variety of building materials, including lumber, decking, fencing, outdoor lighting, Douglas fir, hardware, and related products.
- Provide excellent service and technical support to contractors and DIY customers.
- Greet customers promptly and ensure phones are answered in a timely manner while managing multiple tasks effectively.
- Respond to customer and vendor inquiries via phone and email.
- Coordinate customer deliveries and ensure timely order fulfillment.
- Accurately create sales tickets and input information into the computer system.
- Collaborate with the purchasing team to maintain adequate inventory levels.
- Maintain product knowledge to effectively assist customers in selecting the right materials.
- Address customer questions and concerns, escalating complex issues to the appropriate staff when necessary.
- Ensure customer issues are resolved promptly and satisfactorily.
- Maintain customer accounts and detailed records of interactions, orders, and communications.
- Follow all company Customer Service Standards when assisting customers in person, on the phone, and when preparing quotes or estimates.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Proficient computer skills with the ability to learn new systems.
- Basic math skills and ability to read and complete order forms accurately.
- Willingness to learn measurement tools, such as tape measures.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Customer-focused with effective problem-solving abilities.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced and physically active environment.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience in sales, customer service, or a related field preferred.
- Familiarity with lumber and building materials is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand and work on a computer for long periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
- Comfortable working in various weather conditions and environments with typical jobsite noise and odors.

SALARY RANGE
$18.00 - $25.00 DOE
