About the Role

Description

The Pharmacist is responsible for providing pharmacy services to patients of the pharmacy.


Responsibilities of the Pharmacist include the following:

  • Ensure that pharmaceuticals are accurately dispensed in accordance with pharmacy protocols and physician orders.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with all laws and regulations; ensure that the pharmacy meets or exceeds accreditation standards; and implement ‘’best practices’’ in all pharmacy activities.
  • Resolve pharmacy patient concerns and complaints and provide pharmacy patient counseling as needed.
  • Conduct patient profile monitoring as necessary.
  • Communicate with medical professionals with regard to patient status and response to medication, and when necessary to resolve patient issues.
  • Interact with pharmaceutical manufacturers’ reps as needed to maintain current knowledge of pharmaceutical products and to manage changes to formulary.
  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure adequate supplies.
  • Maintain a system of lot and batch numbers that will allow for recall of medication products.
  • Manage pharmaceutical recalls.
  • Assume on-call responsibilities in accordance with pharmacy guidelines.
  • Report product incidents as required in accordance with pharmacy policy.
  • Supervise the activities of pharmacy technicians and other department personnel.
  • Report any misconduct, suspicious or unethical activities to the Compliance Officer.
  • Represent the pharmacy in a professional and courteous manner in all job-related interactions.
  • Participate in surveys conducted by authorized inspection agencies.
  • Participate in the pharmacy’s Performance Improvement program as requested by the Performance Improvement Coordinator.
  • Participate in pharmacy committees when requested.
  • Participate in in-service education programs provided by the pharmacy.
  • Participate in membership activities of professional and industry organizations.
  • Pursue continuing education programs appropriate to job responsibilities and license requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

To perform effectively in this position, the employee will have:

  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of State and Federal laws as they pertain to day-to-day pharmacy activities.
  • Willingness to obtain out-of-state licensure.
  • Desire to expand knowledge on focused disease management within the bleeding disorders community.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and commercial reimbursement landscape.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Ability to organize and plan the activities of subordinates, and to delegate appropriately.
  • Organizational skills sufficient to maintain consistently accurate records.
  • Ability to evaluate options and to make efficient decisions.
  • Computer skills that include proficiency with spreadsheets and use of the internet, as well as word processing, and efficient use of the internet and e-mail.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of specialty, infusion, mail order
  • Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy or Bachelor’s degree - Pharmacy
  • Active pharmacist licensure in good standing with the California State Board of Pharmacy
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software products

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with CPR+ and Care Tend BI
  • Experience with Blood Clotting Factor and Immune Globulin therapy
  • Experience with ACHC and URAC accreditation
