Garden State Growers is a family-owned greenhouse and outdoor production operation on over 500 acres specializing in the growth and distribution of wholesale perennials, annuals, ground cover, vegetables, and varied seasonal offerings. We serve large retailers who sell plants in sizable quantities, as well as garden centers, supermarkets, and small retail businesses.


Description


The Procurement Specialist is responsible for the purchasing and receiving of all hard goods including pots, trays, tags, and other items as needed. The main duties include determining suppliers, researching and negotiating pricing, planning and creating purchase orders based on forecasting, and managing inventory to ensure availability of hard goods as production schedules dictate. 


Responsibilities

  • Planning, creating, and processing timely requisitions and purchase orders for hard goods
  • Tracking orders regularly
  • Ensuring on-time deliveries
  • Inspecting orders upon delivery to ensure orders that goods meet specifications and orders have been fulfilled.
  • Developing strong relationships with key suppliers and evaluate suppliers’ performance based on cost, quality, delivery, and service level.
  • Communicating with suppliers daily and as needed to resolve supply issues.
  • Working with Operations to resolve issues and concerns
  • Inventory Management
  • Initiating corrective actions on bad materials and following through the resolution with suppliers


Requirements

  • Must be able to push 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be available for Saturday work as needed. 

Desired Skills

  • Strategic thinking experience
  • Supply chain experience working on complex procurements or related experience in strategic sourcing and subcontract management.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to apply critical thinking in every step during the sourcing process.
  • Experience with price analyses, source selection and justification.
  • Microsoft Office 
  • Experience with ERP systems
