This individual will report to the President of BGCSF. The Vice President of Marketing & Communication is responsible for developing and managing communications and marketing strategies for BGCSF. This position will manage three direct reports and oversee a team of four people (Director of Digital Marketing, Director of Government Relations & Advocacy, a Membership & Outreach Specialist, and a Marketing Coordinator). Additionally, the VP of Marketing & Communications will staff the Marketing Committee of the Board.
KEY ROLES (ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES):
Marketing, Communications & General Brand Management
- Manage agency’s branding for consistency in all print and digital assets ensuring alignment with agency’s core values and mission
- Develop and communicate effective and consistent messaging about BGCSF’s mission, youth development strategy, programs, impact, and history.
- Manage and direct on-stage production of events (two major event productions and at least one minor production) ensuring that both revenue and engagement objectives of events are achieved through a compelling show.
- Collaborate closely with development and program staff to support achievement of BGCSF’s goals through marketing and communications tactics.
- Working with the Marketing Committee of the Board, develop a comprehensive public relations strategy that incorporates digital assets and media initiatives.
- Optimize opportunities for brand visibility, including, but not limited to: government relations, member and family relations, employment opportunities and employee spotlights, volunteer relations, and co-branded events and campaigns.
- Develop an annual communication calendar across all channels.
- Provide a strong and consistent voice for marketing and public relations throughout the organization, holding colleagues at all levels accountable for policies and procedures related to marketing/messaging standards and protocols
- Ensure that staff are trained on key brand messaging and brand guidelines.
Digital Marketing Strategy, Tactics and Execution
- Develop comprehensive digital marketing strategies that support fundraising and core business objectives.
- Strong design skills and a good eye for visual presentation of photos and videos; strong ability to tell a story through visual presentations.
- Develop and oversee social media plans
- Develop strategies and tactics to grow our digital presence across various channels including but not limited to social media marketing, email campaigns, optimizing our website, and tracking capabilities.
- Ensure strong brand presence on social media specific to youth membership, employment, Camp, programs and events
Leadership and Management Duties
- Build personal relationships with key constituents that can strengthen and advance our work with youth
- Represent organization as public relations representative
- Coach, manage, lead, and advocate for the Marketing team
- Serve on the senior management team for BGCSF
- Serve as lead staff for the Board Marketing Committee.
- Support and effectively utilize the agency's Board Marketing Committee (made up of BGCSF Board members and other volunteers).
- Identify and help recruit new marketing professionals to support the committee.
Requirements
Required Experience:
- BS/BA from an accredited university or college
- Minimum 10 years of combined experience in marketing and communication with at least three years in nonprofits:
- Communications and public relations strategy
- Digital strategy and digital performance marketing strategy
- Brand management
- Basic online marketing/website management and maintenance experience
- Significant skills with G-Suite, Adobe, and Canva are expected; ability to quickly learn other online tools
- Highly competent project manager who takes initiative, responsibility, and ownership
- Superior written and verbal communication skills, including editing (professional writing samples required)
- Strong interest in nonprofit work with a passion to advance the well-being of young people
- Ability to establish rapport with a variety of constituents—including Clubhouse staff/kids, parents, members of the Board, media/public officials and Boys & Girls Clubs of America
- Excellent listener and team player, with ability to work autonomously and collaboratively
- Highly comfortable with multi-tasking and extensive “hands-on” work
- Persistent and resourceful – “can get things done” under pressure and on a limited budget
- Assertive, confident and highly organized, with strong attention to details
- Special events experience, particularly as it pertains to the program content and flow
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
- Keen eye for design; creative ability
- Ability to work well with event vendors, especially event planners and AV teams
SKILLS/ KNOWLEDGE PREFERRED:
- BS/BA, Marketing or Communications or related field
- At least five years of management experience and a track record for being capable of pushing peers in a non-supervisory role
- Joy for the work and a strong interest in the mission of BGCSF
- Visual presentation of messaging/brand – including pictures, videos, messaging, etc.
- Experience with developing marketing and promotional videos
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Must be able to lift 25lbs.
- Must be able to stand for at least 2 hours
- Must be able to sit at computer workstation for long time periods
