About the Role

Description

 

Novate is an Industrial Technology Services firm with 20+ years of providing professional engineering design, turnkey project implementation, and support services for the technology that runs industrial production facilities. Our clients are large-scale industrial facilities that rely on us for our expertise and high-quality implementation of process control systems, information software, instrumentation, industrial networks, SCADA, measurement, inspection, motion, and state-of-the-art Industry 4.0 technologies. 

This position works under limited supervision, focusing on designing, creating, and updating instrumentation & control diagrams, electrical ladder diagrams, panel elevation views, process and instrumentation diagrams, network diagrams and electrical one-line diagrams. Engineering drawings are completed with regard to detail and demonstrate a solid understanding of applicable codes and standards. This position supports clients throughout California’s Central Valley. The position is eligible to be located in West Sacramento, CA, Merced, CA or as a hybrid remote role with periodic onsite presence as required. 

As an experienced professional, you will work with limited direction from your manager. You will ascertain project scope and expectations from account managers, your manager, or other engineers. Using your skills as an engineer, you will develop designs that meet project scope requirements, selecting industrial components, automation systems, instrumentation and network equipment incorporating all into a cohesive and clear engineering package. The engineering packages will clearly communicate design intent and support fabrication, installation, qualification, and acceptance testing. 

As a key Novate employee, professionalism will extend to properly documented performance within the Novate process workflow (PSA tools, Novate cloud space and various other tools). You will communicate via email, phone, and through our PSA tools with other Novate team members, clients and vendors with professionalism and respect. 

Your internal drive for improvement, and native curiosity will help you pursue professional growth, certification, licensure, and advancement within the Novate engineering team from Engineer I to II, III and then to Sr. Engineer I. You will work to lead Associate Engineers within the same field as you continue to build leadership and management experience.

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop Instrumentation & Control Design on assigned projects. 
  • Complete electrical design for <600Vac/dc circuits for I&C systems (automation systems). 
  • Calculate primary and branch circuit loads and size components accurately. 
  • Calculate wireway requirements for compliance with NFPA 70 (NEC). 
  • Provides engineering support to business development team for bids and proposals. 
  • Provides technical direction as needed to other Novate team members. 
  • Serves as a point of contact for clients and vendors as needed. 
  • Generate documents consistent with all company policies and procedures to deliver superior work. 
  • Comply with corporate policies and directives. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Requirements


  • Hands on experience as an Electrical Engineer in the industrial automation and controls industry. (5-7 years preferred). 
  • Solid understanding of common automation components, including: 
  • PLCs 
  • PACs 
  • VFDs 
  • I/O Systems 
  • Servo Systems 
  • Process Instruments 
  • Sensors 
  • Thrives under pressure and excels in a fast-paced work environment with a variety of projects. 
  • Ability to create accurate professional drawings from concept sketches and shop drawings. 
  • Proficient using AutoCAD Suite and AutoCAD Electrical. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Teams and SharePoint. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to host/facilitate design reviews with client and team members with clear understanding of the design package. 
  • Solid understanding of I&C codes and standards, including the NEC, NFPA 70E, 79, and UL 508/A. 
  • Ability to effectively work with diverse personalities. 
  • Be team oriented. 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. 
  • Ability to travel, when necessary for field visits/client meetings, FAT/SATs within the US (typically about 15%, mostly California). 
  • Ability to type 35 + WPM. 

Education: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program. (Preferred) 
  • Associate Degree in an Engineering program (minimum) and a combination of in-depth automation industry experience. 

License/Certifications: 

  • Valid driver’s license (required) 
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) (Preferred but not required). Novate will support application, training and reciprocity. 
  • ISA Certified Automation Professional (CAP) (Preferred but not required).

Physical Demands: 

The ability to lift up to 50 pounds with frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching and crawling into confined spaces. 

Travel Requirement: 

Ability to travel frequently - locally and out of state when necessary. Travel up to 20%. 

Work Authorization/Security Clearance: 

Ability to pass US Federal, State and Local security level background check. (US, DHS/FBI/DoD) required.
