Compensation is based on total years of experience in previous clinical roles.

POSITION TITLE: CHIEF CLINICAL OFFICER 


FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT


REPORTS TO: CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER


POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The Chief Clinical Officer provides strategic and operational leadership for all clinical services, including hospice, home health, palliative care, and the Peggy F. Murphy Community Grief Center, ensuring compassionate, high-quality care. This role collaborates closely with the executive team to shape organizational strategy, promote innovation, improve clinical outcomes, and position programs for sustainable future growth.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing; master’s degree in nursing leadership preferred; RN license required.
  • Strong leadership skills across all organizational levels
  • Excellent public speaking and interpersonal abilities
  • Complex problem-solving skills
  • Proven success in leading improvement initiatives
  • Understanding of hospice regulations and compliance preferred
  • Knowledge of information systems and data analysis
  • Five years of experience in a healthcare administration role preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


LEADERSHIP

  • Ensure the organization has a clear vision and strategic plan that fulfills its mission and tracks consistent, timely progress. Help develop comprehensive healthcare strategies and build the infrastructure needed to support them.
  • Provide leadership in creating programs, organizational, and financial plans.
  • Foster a culture that promotes and supports employee inclusion and participation.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships internally and externally to help achieve organizational goals.
  • Communicate and implement organizational goals clearly within your areas of responsibility.
  • Positively represent the organization’s programs and concepts to other organizations and the public.
  • Keep informed about key developments and trends in end-of-life care.


OPERATIONAL PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT

  • Develop an operational plan, which incorporates goals and objectives that work towards the strategic direction of the organization.
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the organization's clinical programs and services.
  • Ensure clinical and operational regulatory compliance with IDOH, CMS, CHAP, and all other regulatory bodies.
  • Develop innovative ways to improve the operations of the organization and to create new opportunities.
  • Work with leaders to ensure that we are good stewards of our dollars.
  • Evaluate the resources and financial outcomes of new services and programs.


BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT:

  • Work with Business Development to ensure operational ability to meet performance and census growth goals.
  • Referral source management and relationship development with referral sources such as senior housing partners, physician groups, and payor sources. Manage relationships with partners/vendors.


QUALITY AND COMPLIANCE

  • Develop, maintain, and revise clinical policies, procedures, and practice guidelines
  • Ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Establish appropriate systems and delegate accountability to monitor and ensure appropriate response to patient, family, and community evaluations of services provided.
  • Develop strategies to improve quality scores, both publicly reported and internal KPI.
  • Oversee the education team and skills development for all team members.
  • Oversee the Compliance Officer/program, QAPI Program, Infection Control Program, and Emergency Preparedness Program for the organization.


SERVICE DELIVERY

  • Assure that staffing levels effectively meet the needs of patients and families to provide quality care while maintaining budgetary expectations.
  • Develop and evaluate KPIs to enhance clinical outcomes.
  • Review all concerns and develop process improvements as necessary to resolve issues.


MISCELLANEOUS

  • Execute projects assigned by the CEO.
  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the CEO.
  • Adheres to all Stillwater Hospice policies.
  • Adheres to Stillwater Hospice privacy practices as described in the Notice of Privacy Practices.


ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Must have visual, hearing, and mental ability to initiate and comprehend written and verbal communication.
  • Must be able to engage in clear, concise verbal/non-verbal communications.
  • Must have the ability to remain calm in occasional emergency situations.
  • Recognizes emergencies and has knowledge of emergency procedures, according to the agency’s policy.
  • Must be able to perform tasks involving physical activity such as lifting (i.e., boxes of computer paper and bound reports), extensive bending and standing, reaching, handling objects, fingering, and discriminating colors.
  • Must be able to climb a minimum of three (3) flights of stairs.

ESSENTIAL HAZARDOUS PHYSICAL EXPOSURES:

  • Must be willing to travel in inclement weather.
  • Potential exposure to environmental pollutants.
  • Potential exposure to variable temperatures in the working environment.

CHEMICAL OR HAZARDOUS PHYSICAL EXPOSURES:

  • Potential exposure to substances within the office environment, including copy machine toner, VDT emissions, and cleaning products.
  • Potential exposure to chemical/cleaning substances in the facility environment.

ESSENTIAL PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

  • Standard Precautions will be consistently used for all patients. Protective clothing and equipment are provided by the employer at no cost to the employee.
  • Seat belts must be worn when traveling during working hours according to state law.

The published compensation range for this position reflects a good-faith estimate of starting base pay for full-time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The base pay may be higher or lower based on demonstrated job-related experience.
