South Chicago Packing LLC, located in Chicago, IL, produces animal-based oil, shortening, and wax products used in a variety of food and non-food applications.
About the Role
 

Position Description:

 

Perform duties to ensure proper cook and chill methods are conducted in accordance with product specification and USDA regulations.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare cook or chill tanks by filling and setting temperatures
  • Prepare dollies for cook process
  • Monitor tank water levels, temperatures, and equipment performance throughout the cook/chill processes, making adjustments as needed
  • Record product and cook information on appropriate forms or enter into computer system
  • Select appropriate recipe programs in computer system
  • Pull racks of product and move to next phase of process
  • Conduct hand probe temperature readings on cooked product
  • Maintain safe and clean work environment by complying with employee and food safety procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Operate jeep/walker for the movement of product
  • Complies with and adheres to all employee safety and food safety programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities:

Position Requirements:

  • Able to speak, read, and write English, bilingual Spanish preferred
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Basic computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office programs
  • Proficient with basic math skills
  • Willing and able to work overtime and weekends
  • One to three years related experience preferred
  • Knowledge of GMP, HACCP and USDA regulations preferred

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift more than 50 pounds daily
  • Able to push/pull between 1000-1500 lbs with assistance daily
  • Able to tolerate extreme temperatures daily
  • Able to climb vertical ladders 3-4 feet off ground frequently throughout the day
  • Walking or standing 100% of day
  • Bending/stooping daily

 

Training Period:

Minimum 90 days meeting all above requirements; up to one year

 

This is a union position and comes with benefits provided by the union, upon completion of the 90 day probationary period. Benefits include: medical, vision and dental as well as 1 week of paid time off after 1 year of employment.
