About the Role

Position Summary

Odyssey Systems has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer with Defensive Cyber expertise to support programs at Lackland Air Force Base (AFB). In this role, you will combine advanced systems engineering skills with cyber defense capabilities to support mission-critical systems across their lifecycle. You will work with stakeholders to ensure cyber-resilient system architectures, lead integration and testing activities, and support the implementation of digital engineering practices.

Responsibilities

In this Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) role, you will provide expert-level support to Department of Defense (DoD) programs by assisting government leadership with decision-making, planning, and execution throughout the acquisition lifecycle. You will apply your technical and/or professional expertise to ensure compliance with applicable policies and regulations, contribute to mission success, and help deliver critical capabilities to the warfighter.

 

The Systems Engineer shall perform work that applies a broad theoretical and practical knowledge of system engineering to the acquisition process.

 

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Conduct reviews on program portfolio to evaluate and/or recommend alternative plans, improve systems engineering programs/processes, manage/sustain program technical baseline, and design/perform system level tests to assure that subsystems and system performance is achieved in accordance with approved specifications.
  • Perform program reviews to evaluate alternative proposed plans, systems engineering programs, design, and test results to assure that subsystem and system performance is achieved in accordance with program specifications.
  • Prepare technical documents which define, specify, and recommend system/subsystem characteristics.
  • Prepare management reports and conduct technical presentations for planning, implementation, and corrective action using application of engineering economy principles.
  • Perform validation of systems, including development of criteria and procedures.
  • Analyze and/or evaluate results of major engineering systems.
  • Provide system/program engineering, technical support and technical training to support programs/initiatives, including but not limited to acquisition, development, integration, sustainment, continued evolution, deployment/fielding and installation, and operations oversight.
  • Provide engineering support services and inputs to program and project risk management activities in compliance with Air Force Systems Engineering Assessment Model (SEAM) processes.
  • Capable of performing problem/gap definition, trade space analysis, science and technology roadmap analysis, “Set based design” for concept development, Multi-Objective Decision Analysis and cost versus capability trade off analysis.
  • Capable of implementing Digital Engineering, Digital Thread, and Digital Twin techniques across system lifecycle.
  • Provide technical support to defensive cyber operations, ensuring cybersecurity and resilience are incorporated throughout system design and sustainment.

  • Support risk management, vulnerability assessments, and system hardening in alignment with Air Force cybersecurity policies.

  • Collaborate with cyber security teams to ensure compliance with RMF, DoDI 8500.01, and NIST 800-53 frameworks.

Qualifications

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen

 

Minimum Required Qualifications

Clearance: Must have and be able to maintain a Top Secret Level Clearance with

Education: Bachelors Degree

Years of Experience: 10+ years of experience in Systems engineering roles supporting DoD programs

  • Experience supporting Defensive Cyber efforts 

Preferred Qualifications

Clearance: TS/SCI

Education: Master’s degree in Engineering, Technical Management, or related field

 

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in SE lifecycle processes (e.g., requirements analysis, architecture, test and evaluation, verification & validation)

  • Familiarity with Air Force SEAM, DoDI 5000.02, and DoD acquisition guidelines

  • Skilled in systems modeling tools (e.g., Cameo, Rhapsody), MATLAB, and digital engineering platforms

  • Experience with MODA, trade studies, and system-of-systems analysis

  • Understanding of digital engineering concepts including Digital Thread and Digital Twin

  • Expertise in defensive cyber tools, tactics, and risk mitigation
  • Familiarity with NIST 800-53, RMF, DoDI 8500.01, and cybersecurity policy implementation

Interpersonal Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication

  • Comfortable presenting complex technical concepts to stakeholders and leadership

  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work across functional disciplines

Travel: Travel may be required per the customer's discretion

Please note: Final compensation for this position will be determined by various factors such as the Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant work experience, specific skills and competencies, geographic location, education, and certifications.
