About the Role

Description

The Delivery Captain is a skilled and experienced maritime professional responsible for safely and efficiently transporting boats and vessels to various destinations. This role requires expertise in navigation, vessel handling, and ensuring the safety of crew, passengers, and the vessel during transit.

Responsibilities:

  • Vessel Operation: Operate and navigate boats and vessels, including sailboats, motorboats, yachts, or other maritime vessels, to transport them between locations.
  • Navigation: Plan and execute safe and efficient routes, considering weather conditions, sea traffic, and vessel specifications.
  • Safety: Ensure the safety of crew, passengers, and the vessel by adhering to maritime safety regulations, procedures, and emergency protocols.
  • Pre-Departure Checks: Conduct thorough pre-departure checks of the vessel, including equipment, systems, and safety gear, and address any issues.
  • Crew Management: Manage and supervise crew members, including assigning duties, providing training, and ensuring compliance with safety measures.
  • Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with crew members, passengers, and relevant authorities during transit.
  • Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to emergencies, such as adverse weather, equipment failures, or medical incidents, and take appropriate actions.
  • Navigation Equipment: Operate and maintain navigation equipment, including GPS, radar, sonar, and communication devices.
  • Fuel and Supplies: Monitor fuel levels, manage provisions, and make necessary refueling stops during the journey.
  • Log keeping: Maintain detailed logs of navigation, weather conditions, incidents, and maintenance activities.
  • Documentation: Ensure all required permits, licenses, and documentation are in order for the vessel and journey.
  • Weather Monitoring: Continuously monitor weather conditions and make adjustments to the journey as needed to ensure safety.
  • Customer Interaction: Interact professionally with clients or vessel owners, providing updates on the journey's progress and addressing any concerns.
  • Vessel Care: Oversee routine maintenance and cleaning of the vessel during transit and at destinations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant maritime regulations and laws.
  • Route Optimization: Strive to optimize routes for fuel efficiency and timely arrivals.
  • Budget Management: Manage the budget for the journey, including expenses related to fuel, provisions, and crew compensation.

Requirements

  • Valid and appropriate captain's license or certification, such as a US Coast Guard Captain's License, as required by local regulations.
  • Extensive experience as a captain, including a proven track record of safe and successful vessel deliveries.
  • Strong knowledge of maritime navigation, weather patterns, and safety protocols.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in the operation of various types of boats and vessels.
  • Knowledge of vessel systems, equipment, and maintenance.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities, especially in emergency situations.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to perform duties in various weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and schedules.
  • Ethical and values-driven approach to maritime safety and professionalism.

Position Type:

This is typically a project-based or contract position, but can be full-time with the duration of employment determined by the specific vessel delivery project.
