About the Role

Horizon Health is a Critical Access, Rural Health Facility comprised of 25-inpatient beds located in Paris, IL & a multitude of outpatient clinic settings including Family Practice and Specialty Clinics in Paris and surrounding cities. We have been serving residents of Edgar County since 1968 though community education, emergency services, and outpatient care. As we continue to expand our services & locations, our community has grown far beyond Paris. Position Summary:

The Certified Nurse Assistant is responsible for performance of basic patient care and assistance assigned by and under the direction of a Registered Nurse in the Out-Patient Infusion/Oncology Clinic. Certified Nurse Assistants are expected to act as part of the health care team. Positive interaction with Physicians, RNs, and LPNs, to provide assigned services to patients and their families is required. Certified Nurse Assistants have contact with a variety of patients of all ages (infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric), as well as the mentally and physically challenged.


Essential Functions:

  1. Provides patient assistance with meals, toileting and comfort measures during treatment in the Infusion Clinic.
  2. Maintains unit flow throughout the department by answering phones, making copies, scheduling appointments and maintaining supplies. 
  3. Recognizes the importance of patient safety as our number 1 goal in the health care environment; identifies reports and addresses issues immediately to avoid patient harm.
  4. Accurately obtains vital signs, height and weight of the patient on arrival to the Infusion Treatment Area. Accurately records this data in the patients EHR. Reports results and identifies any other pertinent information to the nurse i.e....abnormal data, patient problems/complaints, along with any noted changes in a patient’s status.
  5. Provides call light, warm blanket and pillow and maintains patient rooms in a clean and orderly fashion
  6. Assists patients with ordering appropriate diet as directed by the nurse. Assists with tray set up, positioning patients comfortably, and assist with meals when needed. Documents/ reports patient intake appropriately.
  7. Performs non-sterile treatments as directed by the nurse, including, but not limited to, ice bags, changing of ostomy supplies, and collecting specimens. 
  8. Follows up on customer complaints as quickly as possible by identifying steps to correct problem, communicating with coordinator/manager, implementing plan, and providing feedback to customer.
  9. Answering call lights and advising nurse of needs beyond scope of position.
  10. Explains procedures and treatments thoroughly to patients, families, and/or significant others before completion.
  11. Maintains knowledge of job related duties; Hand Hygiene, infection control, OSHA blood borne pathogens, TB/respiratory protection plan, policies and procedures, Disaster Manual, Safety Manual.
  12.  Observes patient’s confidentiality by not discussing patient issues except on a need-to-know basis. Refrains from researching any patient records for personal use or knowledge other than need-to-know basis. Avoids personal conversation within hearing range of patients, visitors and physicians. 
  13. Understanding of the Chain of Command for reporting problems of unresolved nature. 
  14.  Accurately processes specific tests of a diagnostic or therapeutic nature as directed by the nurse. 
  15. Maintains a working knowledge of the patient record and assembly of these when necessary. Proficient in recording data (as directed by the nurse) in the patients EHR within scope of practice. 
  16. Displays appropriate, positive attitude at all times. Maintains a level of respect, consideration, and dignity to all customers, at all times. Functions as a greeter in answers questions, giving direction and responding appropriately and pleasantly to all phone calls.
  17.  Has a good understanding of par levels, restocking and cleaning of the Department on an established schedule. Works as a team member to maintain the work environment in a neat and orderly condition. 
  18.  Promotes self as outlined in the Employee Handbook to maintain appearance, attendance, and work ethic in an expected professional manner. 


The responsibilities listed above are not all-inclusive; other activities may be required in support of the hospital’s goals and objectives.


Position Requirements:

  • Successful completion of an approved Nursing Assistant program.
  • Current certification with the State of Illinois for Nursing Assistant 
  • Knowledgeable on universal precautions.
  • Knowledgeable of age-specific requirements for patient populations.
  • Knowledge of HIPPA regulations and required adherence to patient confidentiality at all times in and out of the health care environment.
  • Responsible for maintaining current BLS Certification and all other assigned mandatory facility training activities to include, but not limited to, HCAPPS and Service Skills and Relias. 


Pay Rate:

Pay ranges from $15.250/hour to $20.979/hour (rate of pay is based on applicable years of experience)
