About the Role

Company Description

At Summerset, from the moment we start developing a village to when our residents call it home, it’s the passion and dedication of our people that brings our villages to life. We are one team, united by being part of something bigger – to bring the best of life to our residents.

About the Role

As our Design Manager, you’ll play a key role in shaping Summerset’s retirement living developments across Australia.

You’ll manage the design process on allocated villages from land acquisition and master planning through to construction delivery. Working closely with the Head of Design (Australia), Development and Commercial teams, and external consultants, you’ll ensure designs meet Summerset standards, regulatory requirements, programme milestones and financial objectives — while delivering high quality design outcomes.

You’ll also provide ongoing design support during construction, including site observations, responding to design queries and supporting quality delivery on site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the design lifecycle from acquisition through to construction
  • Establish project briefs and coordinate consultant teams
  • Manage design programmes, documentation and approvals
  • Ensure compliance with Australian planning, NCC, building and aged care requirements
  • Support value management, BIM coordination and quality assurance processes
  • Present design concepts and progress to internal stakeholders
  • Undertake site observations and support construction delivery
  • Contribute to the development of Summerset Australia’s design and BIM standards
  • Promote Safety in Design and Summerset’s zero-harm culture

About You

You’re an experienced design professional who balances design excellence with commercial and programme awareness. You’re confident managing consultants, solving complex problems, and delivering quality outcomes on largescale developments. You have an attention to detail which ensures top quality outcomes for our residents.

You’ll Bring

  • A tertiary qualification in Architecture or a related discipline
  • 7 years’ experience in design management or senior architectural roles
  • Experience across residential, complex building or apartment/highrise projects
  • Strong technical knowledge and documentation review capability
  • Working knowledge of the NCC and Australian planning frameworks
  • Experience in value management, site observation and design & build environments
  • Strong communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills
  • A proactive, collaborative approach aligned with Summerset’s values
