SEIU Healthcare 1199 NW is a dynamic, action-oriented union of over 35,000 healthcare workers throughout Washington and Montana.
Purpose
The Director of Data and Technology is responsible for leading all aspects of the union’s data and technology program. They will provide expert direction and guidance on aligning the organization’s data and technology initiatives with the growth and programmatic goals. Must have an in-depth knowledge of IT/Data management strategies, process, policies, project management, budget management, diverse systems, and best practices. While strategic vision is essential to this position, they are also a contributor in the day-to-day technology functions. This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to build an IT department from the ground up.
Strategic Technology Planning
Build a technological roadmap in collaboration with other departments that supports strategic vision along with programmatic and budgetary goals.
Design and implement long-term data and technology strategies that align with objectives and drive initiatives in a complex environment.
Review, update and develop technology policies and procedures and standard practices.
Infrastructure and Security
Direct all IT operations including support and maintenance of existing infrastructure, applications, and developing new technical solutions.
Manage, review, and audit data integrations, software, IT, data tools, phone, computers.
Supervise the requisition of all computer inventory needs, hardware and software packages, and peripheral devices.
Plan and rollout security plans and education for all staff.
Database
Manage and maintain CRM tools and procedures for dispensing, tracking and auditing organizational data.
Create analytics and targeting strategies data pipelines using various sources, develop dashboards, APIs and reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) for various audiences using data from various sources.
Supervise data specialists and work directly with other teams on database troubleshooting, streamlining and solutions.
Spearhead and manage transition of current database of record to Salesforce based database solution, including database design and programming in coalition with identified SEIU partners.
Vendor and Budget Management
Create, present for approval, and manage department budget that aligns technology investments with long term goals and program delivery.
Negotiate and manage technology vendor contracts and oversee RFPs.
Oversee IT MSP (managed service provider), software/hardware vendors, reduce duplication and manage costs.
Stakeholder Communication
Engage with other departments to understand their operational needs and translate those needs into actionable plans that support programmatic goals, drive increased capacity and consolidate technology solutions.
Provide reporting to ensure visibility for leadership, staff, and membership.
Communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences, translate technical needs into organizational opportunities and risks.
Assess, recommend, and create implementation plans for relevant training and provide technical assistance and direction to staff and union leaders.
Racial Justice
Incorporate Racial Justice in all technology systems, practices, and processes.
Promote awareness of algorithmic equity in data and AI.
Develop Data Just solutions that recognize algorithmic inequity to ensure technology serves all communities fairly.
Engage in actions, political campaigns, and other programmatic functions of the union outside technology.
Requirements
Requirements:
Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience leadership scaling technology for a growing organization.
High level of experience with dataflow, design and mapping, experience as salesforce administrator or developer highly preferred.
At least five years’ of progressive leadership in a strategic technology role. Political, union, community organizing, or not-for-profit experience preferred.
Experience building an IT department from the ground up is highly preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or related field. Equivalent work experience will be considered.
Performs other duties as assigned in support of the work of the union.
