About the Role

Description

Schedule: Monday to Thursday - 4pm - 3:30am, Friday optional OT.

Night Shift Differential: 7.5%


The primary function of the Materials Handler is to operate propane-operated forklifts to safely maneuver, transport, and position products, equipment, or materials within the facility. This role supports production by staging raw materials, assisting with loading coils using cranes (crane experience preferred), and ensuring efficient material flow. Additionally, the Materials Handler will maintain cleanliness in designated areas and assist in resolving equipment or quality issues as needed.


Duties + Responsibilities

  • Follow all company and equipment operation safety procedures.
  • Operate and drive tow motor/lift truck to:
  • Transport pallets, skids, boxes, products, or materials to designated areas.
  • Load raw materials at presses and decoilers.
  • Stage materials for press operators during shifts and at shift ends.
  • Supply press operators with necessary packaging materials.
  • Empty scrap hoppers as required.
  • Remove finished skids from presses and shrink-wrap them if necessary.
  • Dispose of garbage, wood, and steel banding materials.
  • Remove and dispose of broken skids at the end of shifts.
  • Operate cranes to load coils onto decoilers and unload coils from deliveries.
  • Assist in weighing materials or products and record weights on tags or labels.
  • Replace propane tanks when empty.
  • Maintain cleanliness of shop floor in assigned areas when time permits.
  • Report equipment malfunctions or quality issues to Supervisor promptly.
  • Maintain daily labor records on timecards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs and individual skills.

Requirements

Experience, Knowledge + Skills

  • Prior experience operating forklifts and cranes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of two years' experience as a full-time lift truck driver preferred, with coil handling experience being advantageous.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to interpret various instructions provided in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.

Physical Demands + Work Environment

  • The employee must be able to lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to forty (40) pounds and work comfortably in a noisy and potentially hazardous industrial environment. Additionally, they should be capable of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching for extended periods. During job duties, the employee may also need to sit, stoop, kneel, climb, or balance occasionally. They must frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to forty (40) pounds and may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and a risk of electrical shock. There is occasional exposure to high, precarious places, and specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment often features loud noise levels due to moving mechanical parts.
