Requirements
Job Responsibilities:
The barista is responsible for serving all products with friendly and efficient service through individualized attention to each customer while maintaining a clean and welcoming store environment.
- Required to work at least one weekend day.
- Take customer orders and communicate them to other employees for preparation.
- Leverage in-depth knowledge of our products to suggest upgrades and complementary options with an engaging presence at the register
- Skillfully negotiate and persuade customers through upselling and cross-selling in order to meet sales targets
- Describe menu items, product details, and preparation descriptions to customers and suggests products that may interest them
- Answer any questions from customers about our products
- Follow policies on cash handling and POS use
- Prepare and serve quality hot and cold beverages (coffee, espresso drinks, tea, cold brew, blended drinks, etc.) as well as food products while adhering to food safety guidelines and Black Cap recipes/procedures
- Deliver distinguished and efficient service to all customers, while responding to customer needs
- Maintain composed demeanor during times of high volume to keep the store operating to standards of quality, service and efficiency
- Develop understanding of coffee and tea (different regions, various differences in flavor and blend, etc.)
- Be shadowed by new baristas to assist them in learning job responsibilities, expectations, and store policies
- Answer questions from new baristas to support their training
- Prepare breakfast sandwiches and lunch sandwiches
- Restock all service stations and basement daily
- Maintain organization, cleanliness, and sanitation of service areas, dish pit, basement, seating areas, and retail areas
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks
- Wash dishes, sweep, mop, take out garbage, recycling and compost
- Perform opening and closing duties
Physical Job Requirements
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs up and down the stairs multiple times per day
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs off the ground from a squatting position
- Must be able to frequently squat, bend at the waist, and twist from the waist while carrying heavy, large objects up to 50 lbs
- Must be able to stand on your feet for up to 8 hours at a time
Required Skills & Experience
- Skilled in teamwork, customer service, sense of urgency, prioritization, communication, cleanliness/organization
- Must be timely and attentive to work
- Must have a growth mindset and respond constructively to feedback
Black Out Dates
All employees must be available during peak holiday times and will be expected to work:
- Foliage season (September 20th- October 20th)
- December holiday season (December 26th – January 2nd)
- Presidents’ Day week
- Martin Luther King weekend
- Various summer holidays/events as deemed necessary by management
