About the Role

Sedgman is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for their Vancouver office.  

The ideal candidate will have mechanical design experience working on mining/heavy industrial projects, from conceptual design and studies through to project completion; they will have strong knowledge and experience specifically in mechanical process equipment, platework and piping. 

This individual will be responsible for a variety of tasks, ranging from engineering design, equipment selection, and on-site support and quality control. 

They will participate in all project phases, from proposal preparation, studies, detailed engineering design, construction, and commissioning. The ideal incumbent will have prior site experience and will be able to ensure that engineering functions are efficiently completed and technically compliant.

 

What does this role involve? Main Responsibilities: 

 

  • Provide technical direction and guidance to project staff to ensure goals and objectives are effectively and economically achieved.

  • Work on mining and industrial designs, plant layouts, mechanical equipment selections and integration, fluid and slurry pumping equipment and piping, and material handling, etc. 

  • Participate in all project phases including scoping, proposals, feasibility, detailed design, construction support, commissioning, field engineering, and business development.

  • Prepare and review Mechanical Equipment List, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).

  • Lead and perform mechanical design tasks during detailed design, including interfacing with vendors, reviewing vendor data, and reviewing/releasing engineering drawings for construction

  • Participate in design review workshops, and coordinate other members of the mechanical team to complete any actions

  • Collaborate with multidiscipline teams and mentor junior engineers and technical staff to develop solutions based on engineering calculations and simulations.

  • Support procurement, construction, and site activities including package development, vendor coordination and bid reviews.

  • Monitor compliance with design, identify potential or actual non-conformances and document for resolution.

  • Lead responses to queries from construction personnel including, including risk assessment, Quality observations, RFI’s & technical queries, construction planning with associated staff and subcontractors.

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships and contribute to business development efforts.

  • Promote a strong safety culture and adhere to company policies and procedures.

  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.

  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.

  • Work in a safe manner at all times.

     

What are we looking for in our future team member? Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering.

  • Will have 20+ years of relevant work experience, preferably with 5 years in leadership role overseeing junior engineers on projects.

  • Previous experience working on mining infrastructure projects is required; experience on a mine / construction site is highly desired.

  • Be registered as a Professional Engineer (EGBC)

  • Demonstrated ability to lead small project teams in mechanical design.

  • Skills in MS Office suite, MS Project or Primavera P6 is highly desired

  • Contract Administration exposure is an asset

  • Ability to safely and effectively self-manage time, priorities and activities 

  • relevant mechanical engineering experience, preferably in mining, or related sectors.

  • Familiarity with engineering analysis software.

  • Experience with industrial plant layout, pumping and piping systems, conveyors, HVAC, and material handling equipment.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Must be eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship

Salary Range : $160K - $180K 

 

The salary offered to the successful person for this position will consider education, experience, relevant skills and capability, geographic location and market conditions at the time of hire.
