Job Summary
This role will be commuting to and working out of our Oak Brook, IL office. The Assistant Corporate Controller leads efforts to maintain, enhance, and enforce compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and proven accounting practices. Serves as escalation point for daily department operations including but not limited to accounts receivable, accounts payable, financial projects, purchasing, and financial reporting. Prepare and record monthly journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, amortization, and reclassifications. Collaborate on the completion of month-end and year-end preparations, while providing monthly quarterly and year-end analyses. Build quality organization-wide and external relationships, fueling collaboration and mutual accountability for financial integrity, decisions, and outcomes. Key responsibilities:
- Department Operations Leadership. Maintain department efficiency and value through accountability and integration of proven practices, standards, and processes. Work with department leaders to manage resources, investments, and priorities in alignment with organization strategy. Oversee and enforce accounting standards and internal controls to maintain financial integrity, transparency, and accuracy. Serve as second-tier escalation point to resolve, expedite, and mitigate challenges/delays in process and/or work delivery. Provide motivation, leadership, advocacy, and support to elevate the value of the department and its teams.
- Process, Policy, + Procedure Integration. Ensure core process, policies, and procedures are implemented with consistency and accountability across the organization. Collaborate across departments, functions, teams, and partners to coordinate work and stay aligned. Outline and communicate department direction, services, and operating guidelines across the organization. Identify, approve, and/or lead continuous improvement and investment efforts to optimize efficiency and effectiveness of core process and procedures (e.g., specifications, tools, technology, application).
- Financial Management + Reporting. Prepare and record monthly journal entries, including accruals, prepaid's, amortization, and reclassification's. Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including consolidation and reconciliation of accounts, in compliance with regulatory standards. Reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records. Serve as liaison with external auditors and financial affiliates.
- Strategy Execution. Assess, inform, and direct team and department priorities to facilitate business growth and outcomes. Collaborate on strategic initiatives and improvements to advance priorities, programs, and targeted outcomes. Progress and adjust team and department priorities in alignment with targeted goals and metrics.
- Workforce Planning and Management. Partner with department leaders, CFO and Human Resources to forecast, develop, and implement workforce plan in alignment with projections. Collaborate with Human Resources to secure and onboard required talent according to plan and changing business needs. Engage and grow talent across the department through strategic staffing, coaching/mentoring, and development. Foster employee wellbeing through ongoing efforts to prioritize, negotiate, and balance workload across the department. Resolve and advise on elevated people issues and inquires in alignment with core values and required processes. Implement performance management and succession planning activities and decisions that fuel engagement, accurately recognize and differentiate performance, and contribute to a positive employee experience.
- Client and Partner Relationship Management. Maintain and promote open communication, process alignment, and a shared organization-wide view. Establish and nurture relationships across organization, partners, and financial affiliates. Liaison with department and executive leadership. Assess relationship changes and their implications to core process and department workflow operations. Leverage relationships and industry expertise to recommend mutually beneficial outcomes within defined parameters. Foster connections and relationships across offices to fuel exceptional client and employee experiences and results
Requirements
Qualifications
Education and Experience –
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or a related field
• 7+ years’ experience in accounting or finance
• Successful track record in leading and growing teams in a multi-team accounting or related function
• Proficiency in financial controlling
• Strong technical accounting skills with solid knowledge of GAAP
• Analytical aptitude with ability to analyze complex financial data and provide actionable insights
• Possess excellent customer service and interpersonal skills orientation
• Conscientious and flexible, with a strong work ethic and problem-solving orientation
• Proven track record of effective communication (written and verbal) and collaboration across various audiences, situations, and medium
• Strong learning and coaching capabilities to foster continuous learning and professional development
• Effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and proficient in other Microsoft Office365 applications (including MS Word, SharePoint, Teams, and PowerPoint)
Preferred -
• Relevant certification (CPA, CGMA, or CMA)
• Knowledge of FP&A
