The Mechanical Engineering Intern will support the Engineering team at our Fresno manufacturing facility, which produces syrups and sauces. This role is designed to provide hands-on exposure to manufacturing operations, process improvement, and plant performance.
The intern will work on real projects that improve efficiency, reduce waste, and support safe, high-quality production. This internship is structured to provide meaningful project work. Administrative tasks such as filing or data entry will be limited and will not exceed approximately 30–40% of the overall experience.
Pay: $21.00 per hour
Hours: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Schedule: Monday - Friday
Location: Fresno, CA
Work Environment: In-Office
Core Responsibilities:
- Support the engineering team in documenting chilled water, glycol, and utility distribution systems across the facility.
- Conduct field walk-downs to capture equipment data, piping layouts, labeling gaps, and system operating parameters.
- Assist in updating P&IDs, equipment lists, and system descriptions used for maintenance, troubleshooting, and future capital planning.
- Partner with maintenance technicians and engineers to observe system operations and understand functional relationships between pumps, heat exchangers, chillers, and controls.
- Support small improvement projects such as insulation audits, tag verification, flow/temperature logging, or root-cause documentation.
- Prepare clear engineering documentation, diagrams, and reports aligned with industry standards.
Internship Expectations
- Chilled Water System Documentation Initiative: Develop a full system map including major equipment, flow paths, instrumentation, and control elements.
- Glycol System Audit & Improvement Plan: Capture current-state performance data and help identify opportunities for standardization, optimization, or preventive maintenance.
- Utility System Labeling and Data Cleanup: Assist in bringing utility documentation up to standards for future capital and reliability projects.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid systems, or industrial processes.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Comfortable working in plant environments and gathering field data.
- Ability to read basic technical drawings (P&IDs, general arrangements preferred but not required).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset; willingness to ask questions and learn.
- Use of AutoCAD / Autodesk Design Software
Education and/or Experience
- Pursuing a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Junior, senior, or graduate standing preferred
