The Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas is a federally qualified patient-centered health center dedicated to providing quality health care to everyone regardless of their ability to pay. Originally opened by Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center as an extension of its mission, it is now a patient-owned and operated organization serving more than 50,000 children and adults annually. The Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas employs more than 700 professionals and support staff at 18 locations throughout Crawford, Cherokee, Labette, Linn, Montgomery, Allen and Bourbon counties, and Ottawa County in Oklahoma.  The Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas is governed by a 12-member Board of Directors which includes patients and community representatives. Medicare, Medicaid, KanCare and private insurance are accepted. Discounted rates for services are available for those meeting financial assistance guidelines. No-one is refused care due to inability to pay.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This position is part of the clinical team. This position is responsible for accurately filling controlled medications, including, but not limited to specialty medications, prescribed by providers, in a timely manner. Provides clear and concise communication with patients, clinical staff, and medical providers.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Provides professional and courteous service to patients, visitors, and staff, maintaining a positive clinic and pharmacy experience.
  2. Reviews prescriptions for accuracy and appropriateness and prepares, compounds, and dispenses medications—including controlled substances—in a timely and compliant manner.
  3. Provides patient counseling and medication education, ensuring patients understand proper medication use, side effects, and adherence strategies.
  4. Participates in Medication Therapy Management (MTM) and specialty therapy management by reviewing patient medication regimens and making clinical recommendations to providers based on current guidelines.
  5. Maintains security, inventory control, and proper handling of medications, including controlled substances, hazardous waste disposal, and compliance with applicable pharmacy standards.
  6. Coordinates pharmacy operations and medication access, including prior authorizations, specialty medication ordering, and timely shipment or delivery of medications.
  7. Ensures accurate documentation and data entry in pharmacy and clinical information systems and prepares required reports as needed.
  8. Communicates and collaborates effectively with providers, clinical staff, pharmacy personnel, and patients to support safe and efficient medication management.
  9. Participates in pharmacy residency program requirements, including duty hour tracking, evaluations, meetings, and assigned learning activities in accordance with ASHP standards.
  10. Performs all duties in compliance with CHC/SEK policies, the 340B program, and applicable state and federal pharmacy regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must be licensed as a Kansas Pharmacist. If not licensed at time of hire, must provide proof of application to the Kansas Board of Pharmacy and obtain Kansas pharmacist licensure within 120 days of the residency program start date. 
  2. If not licensed as a Pharmacist at time of hire, must show proof of application to Kansas Board of Pharmacy for Pharmacy Intern license. 
  3. Graduate of an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy prior to the start of the residency program.
  4. Basic Life Support within ninety (90) days of hire.
  5. Maintaining Continuing Education as required.

  2. Must be computer literate, especially with Microsoft Office products and be able to use the Internet.
  3. Must be able to maintain good inter-personal relationship with co-workers and other members of the health care team and the organization. 
  4. Provide customer service in accordance to the organization’s mission. 
  5. Be courteous and respectful when interacting with patients and family members. 
  6. Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance to organization’s policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements.  
  7. Demonstrate knowledge of the rationale of appropriate patient care.
  8. Communicates through appropriate channels. Use proper chain of command for patient complaints.
  9. Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Computer work is frequent. Good lighting and comfortable temperature of ventilation at all times.
