About the Role

Overview

 

Join The Wilds as a Seasonal Food Service Attendant and help create memorable dining experiences in a one‑of‑a‑kind conservation setting. Be part of an enthusiastic team that serves guests and keeps our dining spaces running smoothly perfect for someone who loves fast‑paced teamwork, great guest service, and learning on the job.

Responsibilities

Provide excellent guest service, while assisting with food preparation and kiosks support in a fast-paced environment at the Overlook and Carnivore location as needed.

Guest Service & Hospitality

  • Greet guests and provide prompt, friendly service, including assistance with kiosks.
  • Learn about the Wilds and its species to accurately answer guest questions.
  • Assist in maintaining dining room and deck spaces.
  • Set up/break down service stations (coffee, beverage, condiment, and utensil areas) and restock throughout service.
  • Oversee grab‑and‑go items at Frontline, ensuring items remain stocked and are paid for prior to consumption.

Food Preparation & Service Support

  • Assist with food preparation for daily guests, groups, and overnight visitors.
  • Support dishwashing and bussing as needed.
  • Check Frontline closer lists when leadership is absent and complete assigned closing tasks.

Food Safety, Sanitation & Compliance

  • Learn and follow ServSafe guidelines to ensure safe and sanitary food environment.
  • Follow handwashing, glove use, and allergen‑control procedures (separate equipment, labeling, and communication).
  • Label, date, and rotate food using FIFO (First In, First Out) standards.
  • Record and maintain required food temperature logs for hot holding, cooling, and reheating.
  • Maintain work areas, including restocking, inventory management, and cleaning.
  •  Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitized service, prep, and dining area throughout the shift.
  • Adhere to Responsible Alcohol Policy guidelines.
  • Comply with The Wilds’ emergency procedures (weather, evacuation, animal‑related safety) and report hazards immediately.

Communication, Teamwork & Mission Support

  • Maintain open communication with the Area Lead, Kitchen Coordinator, and Food and Beverage Manager.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments and coworkers to ensure seamless operations.
  • Provide support to dining room, Frontline, and event support roles as needed.
  • Strive to further the mission of the Wilds and support the Zoo, Zoombezi Bay, and Safari Golf Club.
  • Operate a two‑way radio using clear, professional radio etiquette.

Qualifications

Certifications & Age

  • ServSafe Train (If needed, will train before starting).
  • ServSafe certified (or obtained within onboarding) preferred.
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age to prepare, serve, or sell alcohol (assignments involving alcohol service require 21+).

Customer Service & Communication

  • Customer service and sales experience preferred.
  • Positive, professional attitude with a strong commitment to excellent guest service, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency and comfort assisting guests with kiosks.
  • Ability to work a two-way radio.

Operational & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to adapt easily to a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong decision-making skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to Plan and organize work efficiently.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25–35 lbs as needed.
  • Comfort working indoors/outdoors and moving between hot and cold environments (kitchen, patio, coolers).
  • Team‑oriented mindset with willingness to cross‑train in dining room, Frontline, and event support.
  • Commitment to sustainability practices (waste reduction, recycling/compost where applicable).

Schedule

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Compliance

  • Subject to The Wilds’ Drug‑Free Workplace Policy, pre‑employment background check, and BMV check if driving is assigned.
