About The Role
Whop operates in fast-moving digital verticals. Risk is not a back-office function - it’s embedded in growth. As our first dedicated Payments Risk Specialist, you aren’t joining a legacy machine, you will help shape it. We’re looking for a Payments Risk Specialist who can monitor, research and continuously improve transaction and merchant risk frameworks while enabling expansion.
What You’ll Do
- Monitor transaction activity and merchant behavior across card and alternative payment rails
- Analyze fraud patterns, chargeback trends, and abuse vectors, applying creative investigative skills to uncover the hidden trails of bad actors
- Partner with Compliance on KYC, KYB, and onboarding risk controls
- Fine tune rules and thresholds to balance approval rates with loss mitigation. You understand that a blanket "no" is the easy way out but you aim for precision
- Design dashboards and alerts that surface emerging risk trends, building data narratives from the ground up
- Work cross-functionally to prevent systemic exposure while preserving growth velocity
What We’re Looking For
- 2–5 years in payments risk, fraud operations, or transaction monitoring with a strong analytical mindset with ability to interpret behavioral and financial signals
- You thrive in greenfield environments. You possess the ability to make principled risk decisions under ambiguity and partial information

- You have a relentless "can-do" attitude. You don't wait for perfect engineering solutions; you build workarounds, push boundaries, and find a way
- You keep a sharp eye on UX. You understand that managing risk is about maximizing legitimate revenue, not just minimizing loss
- Ability to make principled risk decisions under ambiguity and partial information

- Experience with digital goods, marketplaces, or creator platforms
- Exposure to sponsor bank environments or card network monitoring programs
Your first 90 days will look like the following:
- Within 30 days, you will deeply master Whop’s payment risk flows
- Within 60 days, You take full ownership of the daily operation. You are applying your creative review skills to hunt down bad actors and making principled risk decisions
- Within 90 days, you are detecting fraud patterns and escalating trends to our engineering teams to update fraud solutions within our product
The expected salary range for this position is $70,000 to $100,000 annually, with final compensation determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
