About the Role

Job Description

Within the HSE-ENV group, the selected Graduate will contribute to CERN's greenhouse gas accounting, decarbonisation strategy and energy regulatory monitoring.

Your responsibilities

1. Carbon Footprint & Greenhouse Gas Accounting

  • Support the annual update of CERN's greenhouse gas inventory (Scopes 1, 2 and 3).
  • In collaboration with IPT, propose a solution to increase Scope 3 data granularity CERN Departments.
  • Update emission factors.
  • Contribute to the update of emission projections for the HL-LHC and FCC-ee phases.
  • Support scenario analysis for future emission trajectories.

2. Decarbonisation Strategy Support

  • Develop and implement procedures to ensure complete data traceability for decarbonisation initiatives.
  • Support the assessment of reduction potentials and implementation feasibility.
  • Investigate the potential of new decarbonisation specific KPIs.

3. Energy Management Support

  • Lead the update of regulatory watch activities to ensure compliance with evolving energy standards and directives.
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation related to ISO 50001.
  • Contribute to audit preparation and follow-up of action plans.
  • As required, support energy data analysis and energy review activities.

4. PESS & Project Support

  • Contribute to weekly situation points.

Your profile

Skills

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Experience with data analysis tools (Excel, Python or similar).
  • Knowledge of carbon accounting and/or LCA methodologies is an asset.
  • Ability to work autonomously and interact with multiple stakeholders.
  • Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Energy and Climate Engineering (Energy Systems, Climate Science), Environmental Engineering, Industrial Ecology (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Additional Information

Job closing date: 13.04.2026 at 23:59 CEST.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Job flexibility: Hybrid
