Junior Desktop Support Technician

Description
We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Junior Desktop Support Technician to join our team. This position assumes a fundamental, hands-on role in our hardware lifecycle management. We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive individual whose key responsibilities are to manage our hardware inventory, be responsible for preparing equipment for new hires, processing returns from departing employees, and maintaining an organized, audited equipment environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or entry-level professional to gain hands-on experience with enterprise hardware deployment and basic troubleshooting.
This is a part time, hybrid role based out of our Fort Washington, PA office.
Essential Functions / Tasks / Duties / Responsibilities:
Hardware Deployment & Logistics
- Imaging & Provisioning: Use internal deployment tools to image laptops and configure them according to company standards.
- Shipping & Receiving: Securely pack hardware for outbound shipment to remote employees and process incoming equipment returns.
- Quality Control: Perform physical inspections and basic functional tests on returned hardware to determine if it can be redeployed or needs repair.
Inventory & Audit Management
- Asset Tracking: Maintain an accurate database of all hardware assets within our inventory management system.
- Inventory Audits: Perform regular counts of stock to ensure data integrity and identify missing or misplaced equipment.
- Warehouse Organization: Keep the IT storage areas clean, labeled, and organized.
Triage & Maintenance
- Level 1 Triage: Assist with basic hardware-related troubleshooting (e.g., dock connectivity, peripheral issues, or initial Windows setup errors) and basic Windows OS software troubleshooting.
- General Maintenance: Assist in the retirement and disposal of legacy hardware, ensuring all data is securely wiped per company policy.
- Documentation: Create or update "How-to" guides for common IT procedures.
Requirements
Competencies:
- Windows OS Proficiency: Strong foundational knowledge of Windows 11 navigation, settings, and basic command-line tools.
- Technical Aptitude: Comfortable working with laptop hardware, monitors, and various docking stations.
- Organization: High attention to detail regarding tracking numbers, asset tags, and inventory logs.
- Communication: Ability to provide clear updates to the IT team and follow shipping/receiving protocols accurately.
- Reliability: Strong time-management skills and the ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
Education / Professional Certifications or Licenses Required:
- Currently enrolled in (or recently graduated from) an Information Technology, Computer Science, or related program (preferred)
Experience Requirements:
- 0-2 years experience in a help desk or IT position preferred
Work Environment / Physical demands/ Travel Requirements:
- Physical Presence: Must be able to travel to corporate HQ and work physically in the office for the duration of the 20–25 weekly hours.
- Physical Ability: Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs (moving boxes of equipment) and spend time standing/moving in our IT storage environment.
