Cost Accountant

Balanced Body is the global leader in Pilates equipment and education, and we’re looking for a skilled Cost Accountant to join our Finance team. This role is critical in supporting our manufacturing operations through accurate cost analysis, inventory valuation, and data-driven insights that enhance profitability and efficiency.
Our Cost Accountant is responsible for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. This role provides critical financial support to operations and executives to maintain accurate inventory valuation, manage manufacturing variances, and maximize profitability through data-driven insights.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cost Accounting & ERP Management (Dynamics 365 BC)
- System Maintenance: Maintain and manage inventory costing and the company Item Masterfile (including new item setups) within Dynamics 365 Business Central.
- Standard Setting: Perform cost roll-ups and standard cost updates using BC costing worksheets.
- Variance Analysis: Analyze and explain manufacturing variances generated in BC; perform Cost-Volume-Profit (CVP) analysis to determine break-even points.
2. Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Inventory Valuation: Support month-end close by ensuring accuracy in WIP,COGS, and inventory valuation in accordance with GAAP.
- Reconciliations: Perform regular account reconciliations to identify and resolve discrepancies between actual and recorded costs.
- Reserves Management: Analyze inventory reserves (excess, obsolete, slow-moving) and recommend necessary adjustments.
- Reporting: Prepare detailed inventory and cost-related reports for management, highlighting production costs and variances.
3. Strategic Partnership & Internal Controls
- Operational Collaboration: Partner closely with production, supply chain, procurement, and engineering to understand production drivers and cost fluctuations.
- Process Improvement: Develop and maintain robust internal controls over inventory and cost accounting processes.
- Executive Advising: Advise upper management on costing strategies and recommend process changes to reduce waste and maximize net profit.
4. General Support
- Collaborate with financial staff on invoicing, capital expenditure (CapEx) tracking, and budget adherence.
- Assume additional financial and operational responsibilities as business needs evolve.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3–5+ years of cost accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of standard costing, variance analysis, and GAAP.
- Advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems; Dynamics 365 Business Central strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical problem-solving abilities with a focus on actionable insights.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial partners.
- CMA or CPA certification a plus.
