UHS is seeking an Shuttle Driver who provides safe and reliable transportation for students and employees to and from San Francisco University High School and Embarcadero BART. This role is responsible for maintaining a positive, respectful environment on the vehicle while strictly adhering to all traffic laws and school safety protocols.
Reports To: Director of Human Resources
Status: Part-Time (Split-Shift) / Non-Exempt
Location: San Francisco University High School, San Francisco, CA
Pay Range: $25-38/hour DOE
Requirements
Primary Responsibilities
· Student and Employee Transportation: Operate a school-owned shuttle or multi-passenger van on a strictly timed morning and afternoon route.
· Safety & Compliance: Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections (brakes, lights, tires, fluids). Ensure all passengers are wearing seatbelts and that the vehicle does not exceed legal capacity.
· Behavior Management: Maintain a quiet and safe atmosphere on the shuttle. Act as a firm but fair leader, reporting any significant student conduct issues to the Dean of Students or employee conduct issues to the Director of HR.
· Vehicle Maintenance: Keep the interior of the shuttle clean and free of debris. Report any mechanical issues or damage to the Facilities Manager immediately.
· Attendance Tracking: Utilizing a digital log, track ridership for safety purposes.
· Emergency Response: Follow established protocols in the event of a mechanical breakdown, traffic accident, or student medical emergency.
Required Qualifications
· Licensing: Valid CA Driver’s License with a clean driving record (no points or major violations in the last 5 years).
o Preference of class B Driver License
· Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of professional driving experience, preferably involving adult and student populations.
· Background Clearances: Must pass a comprehensive criminal background check, Department of Justice (DOJ) fingerprinting, and a pre-employment drug screen (including TB clearance).
· Health: Ability to pass a periodic DOT physical exam.
Skills & Attributes
· Punctuality: A "on-time is late" mindset to ensure students reach class before the first bell.
· Communication: Ability to interact professionally with all riders.
· Tech Savvy: Ability to use GPS and school-specific apps for attendance and routing.
· Composure: Ability to remain calm and focused during heavy traffic or inclement weather.
Typical Work Schedule
This is a split-shift position following the academic calendar:
· Morning Route: [6:30 AM – 9:00 AM]
· Afternoon Route: [3:00 PM – 5:30 PM]
· Occasional opportunities for additional hours for athletic trips or field trips.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.
· Ability to lift up to 30 lbs (student bags or equipment).
· Ability to climb in and out of the shuttle multiple times per shift.
