About the Role
Aspen Fiber Networks is a rapidly growing fiber internet provider expanding across Texas. We are building high-performance fiber networks to support residential and commercial customers and are seeking experienced independent fiber splicing contractors to support ongoing operations in the Houston market.
Important: Contractor RoleThis position is for independent contractors (1099) only.
Applicants must operate as a business or independent technician and provide their own tools, equipment, and transportation.
Contractors will support a mix of the following:
Break/Fix & Maintenance- Troubleshoot fiber outages and service issues
- Perform OTDR testing and fault isolation
- Complete repairs and restore service in a timely manner
- Perform fiber splicing for residential service turn-ups
- Install and prep fiber at terminals and demarcation points
- Test and verify light levels for activation
- Perform single fiber and ribbon splicing
- Build and organize splice enclosures (aerial and underground)
- Execute work based on splice matrices and network designs
Contractors will support a mix of the following:
Break/Fix & Maintenance- Troubleshoot fiber outages and service issues

- Break/Fix: $80/hour (3-hour minimum per dispatch)
- New Activations: $100 per home
- Backbone Splicing: $25 per strand
- Project Minimums: $600/day (where applicable)
Consistent work is available for reliable contractors.
Requirements- 2+ years of fiber splicing experience (FTTH and/or OSP)
- Strong troubleshooting skills for break/fix work
- Experience with fusion splicing equipment (Fujikura, Sumitomo, etc.)
- Proficiency with OTDR testing and interpretation
- Ability to read fiber maps, splice diagrams, and prints
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Must supply own splicing tools, equipment, and consumables
- Experience with GPON / XGS-PON networks
- Prior ISP or carrier network experience
- Bucket truck access or capability
- OSHA or safety certifications
- Reliable, responsive contractors who can support ongoing work
- Clean, organized, and high-quality splicing
- Ability to scale with project demand
- Strong communication and professionalism
