About the Role

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and innovative full-time hospital manager to join AEC + Specialty Moorabbin for a 9-month maternity leave cover role.

The AEC + Specialty Moorabbin has a 24 hour per day, 7 days a week, dedicated emergency and critical care (ECC) service. The hospital is staffed with an outstanding team of emergency veterinarians and nurses working alongside our medicine and surgery specialists. The AEC+SC Moorabbin team moved into an amazing brand new purpose built facility in February 2025, equipped with state of the art equipment. We aim to provide a responsive, comprehensive emergency and referral service to Victorian veterinarians, their clients, and their pets. We provide high professional and clinical standards, which are tempered with genuine care and compassion.

Your role:

Reporting to the business manager, the hospital manager will be a highly valued member of the AEC+SC Moorabbin management team who will oversee and execute the efficient and effective running of the hospital, ensuring that the highest standard of patient care and customer services are achieved.  The role also provides leadership and direction in areas such as: team development, workflow management, supplier management, inventory management, operational performance, patient/customer satisfaction, and ad hoc tasks as required.

The hospital manager is responsible for overseeing and developing the ECC, Medicine, & Surgery nursing teams and the Customer Services team, through the supervision and mentorship of the Nursing Team Leaders of each department, and the Customer Service Team Leader, and will also work closely with the Business Manager, Veterinary Clinical Director, and Veterinary Team Leader.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Day-to-day management of the hospital, optimising daily operating procedures to drive the highest standards of patient care and customer service
  • Providing leadership, management, and support to a busy, collaborative, high-performing team
  • End-to-end management of inventory, procurement and purchasing including but not limited to monitoring stock usage and inventory levels, managing quality of supplies, supplier relationship management, overseeing agreements, and supplier audits
  • Maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Working alongside the business manager and the leadership team to identify growth opportunities and implement plans to achieve this
  • Working alongside the business manager to understand levers of profit and loss within the hospital and provide recommendations to improve overall profitability
  • Complying and participating with WH&S legislation and operating in accordance with established health, safety and wellbeing practices and procedures
  • Oversight of and assisting with rostering and onboarding new employees
  • Developing and maintaining referring vet relationships and optimise referral system

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Excellent time management, attention to detail, organisational and communication skills and ability to work towards deadlines
  • Veterinary Nurse or Veterinary Technician qualifications preferred and highly regarded
  • Ability to lead, and to lead by example
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced environment while consistently maintaining a professional demeanour
