Pharmacy Data Analyst (Hybrid)- Pittsburgh, PA

UPMC Health Plan has an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Data Analyst position in the Pharmacy Services department. This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday daylight hours and will be a hybrid position consisting of working from home and in office.
The Pharmacy Data Analyst will conduct and document complex pharmacy analysis projects while supporting the Pharmacy Data Analytics team and provide functional advice or training to less experienced pharmacy data analysts. The Pharmacy Data Analyst must use their knowledge and expert understanding of financial, clinical and other information generated by numerous sources to identify opportunities to improve clinical and financial performance. Furthermore, the position requires the ability to articulate these opportunities to internal and external audiences, implement the solutions, and track and monitor progress. These functions must be done while also weighing the practical considerations and potential barriers that need to be overcome to successfully implement new programs and processes. Perform comprehensive analysis of data and information for various UPMCHP products. Pharmacy Data Analyst will take a leadership role in the enhancement, development, documentation, and communication of identified variances. To successfully perform the role the Pharmacy Data Analyst role one must understand the causes of financial & clinical trends and anomalies.
Responsibilities:
- Record, classify, and summarize financial transactions and events in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Develop financial reports for forecasting, trending, and results analysis.
- Perform complex cost, and financial analysis of data reported, and then be able to explain this analysis to a non-technical audience of both internal and external customers and, at times, senior management.
- Monitor UPMC Health Plan operating performance against regional, national and international benchmarks.
- Identify trends in expenses, utilization, medical quality, and other areas. Investigate variances and derive solutions to cost increases and quality issues.
- Analyze complex financial data and extract and define relevant information; interpret data for the purpose of determining past financial performance and/or to project a financial probability.
- Interpret financial transactions and events for users who must make economic or business decisions.
- Plan and conduct complex studies to determine cost of business activities. Recommend budget adjustments, and other cost improvement measures.
- Meet deadlines and turnaround times set by managers and department director (these deadlines and turnaround times will, at times, require the employee to work until the project is completed, meaning extended daily work hours, extended work weeks, or both.
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, mathematics, statistics, health care, management, or a related field.
- Master's Degree/MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of related work experience required, financial and/or pharmacy analysis.
- Experience in health care insurance, pharmacy related business, or health care industry preferred, but those with relevant experience in other industries will be considered.
- Superior computer skills with expert knowledge in MS Office, and other financial, analytical & statistical software packages.
- Person must demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, enthusiasm and initiative on a daily basis.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment a must. Will need to manage multiple tasks and projects, and forge strong interpersonal relationships within the department, with other departments, and with external audiences.
- Attention to detail is critical to the success of this position, with demonstrated competency in customer orientation and the ability to deal with ambiguity.
