About The Company
Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity has been building homes, hope, and stronger communities in Northwest Vermont since 1984. Serving Chittenden, Franklin, Grand Isle, and Lamoille counties, we partner with families in need to provide safe, energy-efficient, and affordable housing. Our homeowners don’t just move in—they help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage, creating stability, self-reliance, and a true sense of community. Our construction capacity is growing. Our partnerships with municipalities, businesses, volunteers, and donors are more important than ever. And the families we serve represent the backbone of Vermont—teachers, caregivers, tradespeople, and early-career professionals—people who make our communities work. Through volunteering, donations, or advocacy, anyone can make a real difference. Together, we are building much more than homes. We are building stability, dignity, community, and hope. About the Role

Description

Do you have a passion and drive to apply your talents in finance and operations to have an impact? Do you want a role in helping tackle persistent affordability challenges within Vermont’s housing market while bringing the stability, security, and hope that comes with homeownership to working low-income families? You might be the right fit for Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity’s next Director of Finance & HR.

GMHFH is in a growth stage, expanding the number of homes we build and strengthening the organizational infrastructure required to deliver at a greater scale. The Director of Finance & HR is a key leadership role responsible for protecting and advancing the organization’s financial health as our operations grow. This leader will bring a strategic perspective (forecasting, scenario planning, risk management, and decision support) and a practical, roll-up-your-sleeves approach to strengthening day-to-day financial and operational systems across the organization.

Role Overview: The Director of Finance & HR is responsible for managing GMHFH’s finance and administrative operations, ensuring the organization’s financial sustainability, operational readiness, and compliance as we grow. This role oversees financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, audit/tax processes, and compliance. In addition, the Director provides operational oversight for key administrative functions, including human resources and information technology (in coordination with external IT partners), and helps ensure organization-wide systems and processes are documented, followed, and continuously improved. The Director works closely with the CEO and Board of Directors to develop and execute financial and operational strategies that support GMHFH’s mission and goals.

Ideal Candidate - Competencies & Experience: The ideal candidate is a mission-driven finance leader who can translate strategy into strong systems and reliable execution. They bring demonstrated experience managing finances for a mission-driven organization, ideally in a nonprofit environment. They have successfully managed finances for an organization with multiple program areas, lines of business, and/or revenue streams. At GMHFH, this includes the ability to lead financial oversight of ReStore retail operations, home construction, grants and fundraising, and the broader organization’s operating and capital needs. The ideal candidate is skilled in cash flow forecasting, scenario planning, and financial storytelling for non-financial audiences, and can partner effectively with the CEO and the Board to shape financial strategies that balance growth and financial stewardship. They will demonstrate experience strengthening operational infrastructure and providing oversight for HR and IT functions through internal teams and/or external partners.
