STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The Rehab Intern:
- Carry out the mission daily to exceed expectations and be the difference in the lives of those I serve.
- Commit to excellence: o Work to achieve department and organizational goals to achieve JRMC’s vision. o Follow JRMC Healthy Roots o Perform duties to support the entire rehab team, including but not limited to cleaning equipment and work areas, assisting therapists with documentation and patients, and office duties.

JOB FUNCTIONS
Quality:
- Assists Office Coordinator in performing review of medical records for completion of Quality Assurance using established standards of practice.
- Responsible for daily, bi-weekly, and monthly cleaning and maintenance of rehab equipment and logs required for Joint Commission.
Service:
- Greets patients and visitors for Rehab services
- Make sure the equipment is ready daily for staff to use for patient care.
- Brings schedules to PCU and patient rooms daily, communicates plans to patients.
- Aid staff in PT, OT, and SLP for patient care needs.
- Takes patient blood pressures if requested
- Assists with PT group therapy for Ortho patients on PCU.
- Maintains a neat and organized appearance in all areas of the department; replaces equipment to assigned place.
- Daily laundry restocking
- Stocks supplies in all depts., makes sure supplies available for patient care needs.
People:
- Support to the therapist when therapist is performing tests, evaluations, procedures and activities.
- Aids with collecting data during treatment and evaluation sessions.
- Assist with daily mail.
Finance:
- Checks charges for PT, OT, & SLP.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION:
- Preparation & Training - High school level of knowledge preferred to follow written and oral instructions, perform simple calculations and to deal effectively with other people.
- Work Experience - NA
- Attendance - Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee at JRMC. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees are also expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule.
- Analytical Ability - Analysis involves accurate interpretation and copying of numbers, letters, simple mathematical calculations which become a part of the medical record. Requires gathering numerical statistics to complete monthly reports.
- Independent Judgement - Works under direct supervision of the Physical and Occupational Therapist in accordance with established Rehab Department policies and procedures; non-routine problems are referred to the Manager of Rehab; Errors in judgment may moderately impact in time - public relations or costs primarily within the Rehab Department; must be able to establish priorities of duties to be completed.
- Contact with Others - High degree of duties involve contact with others; imperative that this person maintain good relationships with co-workers, patients, families and visitors; must be tactful and maintain telephone courtesy; must be able to exchange information on a factual basis, dispatch verbal or written messages as directed on a timely basis and perform other activities which require courtesy and tact.
- Supervising the Work of Others - The Rehab Intern does not have formal supervisory responsibilities. However, the role may provide basic assistance or support to other team members during patient care activities, equipment preparation, or departmental tasks as directed by licensed therapists or the Rehab Management team. The intern may help guide volunteers, observers, or new interns in understanding daily departmental routines, but does not oversee performance, assign work, or direct the activities of others. All work is performed under the supervision of licensed therapists and within established Rehab Department policies
- Responsibility for Welfare of Others - The physical and/or emotional well-being of other employees and patients are highly impacted by the performance of the Rehab Aide; consequences can be serious; activities during a day impact on the welfare of patients and employees; responsible for maintaining absolute confidentiality of information. Will be required to assist a therapist in the performance of various treatments as needed.
- Mental/Visual Effort - Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner. Must demonstrate physical and emotional ability to meet agreed upon work schedule and performance standards required by the position. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. Work regularly requires the employee to exert a frequent level of mental/visual effort. Work requires visual acuity necessary for performing clerical duties; recording and filing require particular mental application for attention to details and accuracy; visual acuity needed to detect changes in patient's condition and responses and also in proper application of treatment modalities.
- Working Conditions - Majority of position requirements are done within the Rehab Department. Pace can be demanding and is subject to frequent interruptions. Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances. Participates in and complies with JRMC Safety Management Program. Maintains knowledge of and observes Standard Precautions. Practices aseptic techniques whenever appropriate. OSHA job classification: This position is defined as a Category I: employee does have exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
- Physical & Sensory Effort - The duties of the Rehab Intern require regular physical activity and sustained sensory attention throughout the workday. The position involves frequent standing and walking while assisting therapists, transporting supplies, stocking equipment, and supporting patient care activities. Sitting occurs occasionally during clerical or documentation-related tasks. The role requires continuous use of hand and finger dexterity for handling equipment, cleaning tasks, assisting with treatment preparation, and performing office duties. Reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of items such as laundry, supplies, and rehabilitation equipment occur on a routine basis, with weights ranging from light to moderate as indicated in the physical requirements table. The position requires continuous visual observation when assisting therapists, monitoring patients during activities, completing logs, reviewing charts, and ensuring accurate placement and cleanliness of equipment. Continuous hearing and listening effort is required to follow instructions from therapists, communicate with patients, and respond to needs in a dynamic clinical environment. Sensory effort may increase when assisting with treatment activities, monitoring patient responses, or working in areas with noise, movement, or clinical stimuli. The intern must maintain focus and attention to detail while working in an environment with frequent interruptions, varying patient needs, and a demanding pace. Duties may also involve exposure to bodily fluids and patient care environments consistent with a Category I OSHA classification, requiring adherence to standard precautions and aseptic techniques.
- Background - A comprehensive background check will be conducted as a condition of employment for this role.
- Drug Screen - A urine drug screening is required for all positions and must be completed within 30 days of the date of hire.
