About the Role

Description

SUMMARY: Harvest internships at our Silver Oak Napa Valley facility are a wonderful opportunity to have a lot of fun and learn about winemaking while working alongside our small and talented winemaking team. We are dedicated to crafting ultra-premium Cabernet Sauvignon with a focus on producing our Napa Valley label. The Lab Harvest position is responsible for running all analysis with a concentration on quality. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interface with Enologist on analytical responsibilities.
  • Process grape maturity samples.
  • Perform manual and automated analysis using analytical machines such as, but not limited to, a SPICA, Autotitrator, and alcolyzer.
  • Prepare reagents and standards.
  • Inoculating tanks.
  • Pull samples from tanks or barrels and complete analysis requested by Winemaker, Assistant Winemaker, and Enologist.
  • Maintaining experiment support including but not limited to: gathering maturity      samples, vineyard observations and data, and performing associated analysis. 
  • Detailed record keeping of all analysis including experimental lots.
  • Managing and maintaining upkeep and cleanliness of lab equipment and workspace.
  • Participate in all required safety trainings and follow all safety requirements.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Enology, Chemistry, or associated sciences. (preferred)
  • Experience in the cellar or lab environment. (preferred)
  • Familiarity with Vintrace. (plus)
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Adaptable and flexible in a face-pace, changing work environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office. (Excel, Word)
  • Working knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, troubleshooting, and wine lab analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly.
  • Knowledge of safety requirements, procedures, and cautions.
  • Knowledge of the wine production process.
  • Detailed oriented with the ability to interpret technical procedures.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following:
    • Walk, kneel, bend, and stand.
    • Stand for extended periods of time.
    • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    • Climb stairs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is performed both in a standard lab and cellar environment where there may be varying temperature conditions. 
  • Noise levels are usually moderate but may be moderate to high at times.
  • Proper footwear is always required as the ability to stand and walk on concrete floors, catwalks, wet or uneven ground may be required. 
  • Work may include handling caustic/corrosive chemicals.
