About The Company
UGL Regional Linx was established in 2021, after parent company, UGL Limited was selected to deliver operations and maintenance of rail infrastructure for the Country Regional Network (CRN). This network ensures the safe movement of people and goods throughout the regions of NSW, and links Sydney with many important regional centres. UGL Regional Linx commenced operations on January 30 2022 and works on behalf of the client, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) and will be responsible for managing an important network of assets. As part of its operation, UGL Regional Linx’s scope of work includes: • Network operations • Rail infrastructure maintenance and implementation of a new train control system - UGL’s proprietary system, Sigview. • Asset and property management, and • Safety, access, performance, and environmental management. UGL Regional Linx has made a strong commitment to local and indigenous employment, further strengthening the organisation’s commitment to regional NSW. As part of its operations, UGL Regional Linx established its head office and Network Control Centre in the heart of the Central West, Orange, NSW. The CRN network includes: • 2,386 route kilometres of operational passenger and freight rail lines, including 996 km of branch line track used predominantly for haulage of grain, with lower mass and speed limits than other parts of the network • 3,139 route kilometres of non-operational lines • 27,000 hectares of land and infrastructure • 1,312 level crossings (300 active) • 1,200 property assets (including 356 heritage sites) • 600 rail under bridges and 384 road overbridges The CRN is a crucial piece of infrastructure to regional NSW and UGL Regional Linx is committed to ensure that it delivers for all customers, from rail passengers to farmers and industry.
About the Role

UGL's utilities business provides essential design & construction services for critical infrastructure across the power and water sectors. Ranging from transmission lines, switchyards, substations through to wastewater treatment plants.


Our offerings include design, construct, commission, across the following infrastructure: Transmission lines, Switchyards, Substations, Electrical distribution works.

 

The Projects 


Our Estimators have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects which range from brownfield sites to greenfield sites across Australia. The Substation projects can vary in value, size and configuration from approximately $1m to $80m across various transmission voltage ranges and our Transmission Lines projects can vary in value ranging up to $100m plus. All Transmission Line projects are across various transmission voltage ranges and feeder configurations. As with all our projects, our Estimators are involved in some projects which are single sites in the tender or are a combination of multiple sites in the tender. You will also have the opportunity to work on cost plans at various stages of the project estimating lifecycle from concept cost plans through to first principle detailed estimates.

 

The role


As the Senior Electrical Estimator within UGL's Utilities Division, you can be based in either our Brisbane or Sydney office. You will be responsible for providing estimating expertise for current tenders and proposals ensuring they are accurate and timely. You will be responsible for building estimates for substation and transmission line tenders, utilising UGL’s estimating software, CATS.


Key responsibilities of this role include:


•    Provide accurate cost estimates for materials, subcontractor and labour pricing
•    Collaborate with internal subject matter experts to gather information in preparation for tenders
•    Maintain regular contact with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure pricing and product availability are up to date and accurate
•    Complete final pricing submission for presentation to the client
•    Consult with operational departments to determine the accuracy of tenders won and completed
•    Ensure compliance is adhered to for all record-keeping associated with the tender
•    Recommend and update procedures and programs to improve the estimating function
•    Provide cost advice to our current projects

 

About you


This role will suit an Estimator ideally with electrical, water or mining experience. You will need to have a keen eye for detail, a focus on accuracy, and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Other requirements that will see you succeed include:


•    A degree or diploma in engineering will be desirable
•    At least 5 years of experience in project related disciplines will be desirable include electrical trade background
•    Experience with Expert Estimation, CCS or CATS are desirable
•    Strong negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to establish effective working relationships
•    Customer focused, team-oriented, accountable and results-driven
•    The ability to adapt, learn quickly and apply new skills and knowledge
