System Engineer

POSITION OBJECTIVES
The Systems Engineer I plays a crucial role in the maintenance, administration, and support of Soapy Joe’s rapidly evolving technology infrastructure. This role is focused on the day-to-day operational excellence of our multi-site network, servers, and end-user systems. The Systems Engineer I supports our initiative to expand automation, IoT/OT, and cloud services, ensuring high system availability and security across both corporate and retail car wash locations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Systems Engineer I will be responsible for providing hands-on execution of system tasks, including but not limited to:
Multi-Site Network Operations:
- Perform regular monitoring, configuration, and maintenance of network equipment, including switches, firewalls, and VPN services across corporate and retail sites.
- Implement and manage routine changes to firewall and routing rules under senior guidance.
- Provide escalation support for complex network and connectivity issues impacting site operations.
System Administration and Automation:
Manage and maintain Windows Servers for various business functions.
Develop and implement scripts to automate manual administrative tasks and improve process efficiency.
Support the integration and maintenance of Cloud Services (Microsoft 365, MS Azure, etc) and on-premises systems. This includes collaborating with managed service providers and third-party vendors to ensure platform reliability.
Proactively monitor system health and performance using centralized monitoring and logging tools to ensure high availability of critical services.
Assist with the administration (e.g., backup verification, performance checks) of on-site and cloud-based operational databases.
Security and Compliance:
Actively work to resolve security issues reported by vulnerability scanning tools (e.g., patching, configuration hardening).
Apply documented security best practices to system and network configurations to proactively address common vulnerabilities.
Execute and verify data backup and disaster recovery processes.
Asset and Change Management:
Maintain an accurate hardware and software asset inventory system.
Draft and implement system changes in an enterprise environment following established change control procedures.
Assist with the procurement, provisioning, and deployment of technology equipment and licenses.
End-User Support:
Provide Tier 2 technical support for employees running Windows and macOS operating systems.
Act as the primary technical liaison and coordinator with external IT vendors and partners for complex system troubleshooting, maintenance, and technical project execution.
Serve as an escalation point for complex issues and participate in incident response and root cause analysis for system outages and events.
Innovation:
Evaluate, recommend and implement new technologies that enhance reliability, performance, scalability, and security.

Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: DEGREE
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred.
Equivalent technical experience and/or certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Security+, relevant Microsoft/Cisco certifications) may substitute for a formal degree.
REQUIREMENTS: EXPERIENCE
This role is ideal for an ambitious, detail-oriented individual with 3+ years of hands-on experience in a technical systems administration capacity
Technical Expertise:
- Demonstrated hands-on experience supporting a multi-site network environment.
- Experience with network administration, specifically managing switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
- Practical experience managing and troubleshooting Windows Server operating systems.
- Proficiency in administering and supporting Windows and macOS end-user environments.
- Familiarity with applying configuration changes to address security findings.
Automation & Scripting:
- Direct experience scripting manual administrative tasks (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash).
Soft Skills & Collaboration:
- Proven ability to learn new technologies quickly, identify, and resolve system issues impacting uptime and efficiency.
- A foundational understanding of Systems Thinking and the ability to view complex systems holistically.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly to non-technical staff.
REQUIREMENTS: PHYSICAL
Ability to remain in a stationary seated or standing position for various increments of time.
Able to move about to access a variety of tools and office equipment.
Able to consistently operate a computer or other electronic device.
Must be able to communicate clearly through both verbal and written form.
Salary Range: $85,000-$95,000 annually
