About The Company
Southgate Recreation & Park District (the District) is an independent special district established in 1956 under the Public Resources Code. The District provides park and recreation services to over 134,000 taxpayers in the southeast area of Sacramento County. The District encompasses 52 square miles and includes 47 parks, 7 community centers, 2 aquatic facilities, a golf course and many parkways and landscape corridors. A five-member Board of Directors governs the District. The Board members are elected from five geographic divisions within Southgate Recreation & Park District’s boundaries. Directors are elected to serve staggered four-year terms. The Board assigns District administrative responsibilities to a General Manager. The General Manager is responsible for implementing the policies of the District and is also the Finance Officer. The Finance Officer is responsible for installing and maintaining the system of auditing and accounting that shall completely, at all times, show the financial condition of the District. There are four divisions organized by function: Administration, Parks, Recreation and Golf. The Administration division administers accounting, budgets, payroll, human resources, planning, capital development, computer support and general administration of the District. The Parks division maintains the parks and facilities owned by the District. The Recreation division manages recreation programs and the maintenance of the community centers. The Golf division operates WildHawk Golf Club. All departments work cooperatively to accomplish the mission of Southgate Recreation & Park District. The mission is a commitment to provide positive recreational opportunities, safe and attractive parks and open spaces, resulting in a healthier community.
About the Role
 


PRO SHOP ASSISTANT I – WILDHAWK GOLF CLUB

 

Under the supervision of the Course Manager and Director of Golf, the Pro Shop Assistant is responsible for customer check-in and tee sheet management, daily operation of the counter and related areas.   Duties also include assisting with merchandising, inventory and assisting the Assistant Golf Professional. The employee works with considerable independence and is responsible for making decisions requiring sound judgment and familiarity with district policies and golf industry standards.   

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

Answers multi-line phones greets public and participants, answers questions, provides information or directs them to proper office. Assists the golfers in any way possible.

Maintains the tee sheet and daily log of activities.

Sells merchandise in the Pro Shop. Assists with receiving, input, restocking and pricing of merchandise.

Responsible for proper cash handling procedures and collecting golf receipts.

Assists in counting monthly inventory. 

Performs opening and closing duties.

Monitors Pace of Play with outside services staff.

Performs minor custodial duties such as cleaning the restrooms and taking out the garbage.

Provides excellent customer service.

Assists with the tournament operations and other golf events.

Operates golf cart, two-way radios, etc. 

Communicates effectively and tactfully with the golf participants.

Attends and participates in regular staff meetings and in-service trainings as necessary.

Follows oral and written instructions.

Works harmoniously and cooperatively with fellow employees and the public.

Answers questions regarding various programs.

Performs administrative tasks, such as completing accident/incident reports.

Performs physical labor, lift, carry, push and pull heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) Walk, stand, stoop and crouch for long periods; climb ladders. 

Performs under various weather conditions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

Knowledge of and Skilled in:   Communications and public relations; golf etiquette, providing great customer service at a golf course, golf course and retail operations, proper cash handling procedures and basic math and reading skills.

 

Ability to:   Understand and follow oral and written instructions; write and speak English at a level to satisfactorily perform the work; write and speak clearly and concisely; work harmoniously and cooperatively with fellow employees and the public; maintain neat and appropriate appearance; make quick and accurate judgment calls; establish and maintain positive relationships with the public and other employees; represent the District in a professional manner. Operate a golf cart safely; efficiently use computers, including word processing, spreadsheet and other software programs to perform job duties.

 

Physical Requirements:   Must be able to perform physical labor, lift, carry, push and pull heavy objects, walk, stand, stoop and crouch for long periods; and climb ladders. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform under various weather conditions. 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

Must be at least 18 years old. Completion of high school or equivalent is required.  Previous experience working at a golf course is desired.


EMPLOYMENT LENGTH

 

Seasonal and part-time. As a condition of employment, may be required to work unusual hours, weekends and holidays.

 

COMPENSATION       $16.90 - $17.40 per hour.

            

STATUS                          Part-time; Non-Exempt.
