Manufacturing Cost Accountant

Description
Balanced Body is seeking a technically elite Manufacturing Cost Accountant to act as the financial architect of our production environment. Unlike a traditional accounting role, this position requires a deep understanding of discrete manufacturing, specifically the management of complex Bills of Materials (BOMs) and Routings. You will be responsible for the integrity of our manufacturing data, ensuring that every labor hour and raw material trend is accurately captured in our cost models to drive global profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Industrial Cost Architecture & ERP (Dynamics 365 BC)
- BOM & Routing Integrity: Own the financial structure of our production process. Audit and maintain complex multi-level BOMs and Routings to ensure that "standard" times for labor and machine utilization match actual shop-floor reality.
- Large-Scale Cost Roll-ups: Lead the execution of comprehensive cost roll-ups within Dynamics 365 Business Central. Validate raw material price trends and labor rate changes before performing system-wide updates across thousands of SKUs.
- Overhead Optimization: Develop and calculate sophisticated fixed and variable overhead rates. Determine the most accurate absorption bases (machine hours vs. direct labor) for a high-volume discrete manufacturing environment.
- Item Masterfile Management: Serve as the gatekeeper for the Item Masterfile, ensuring new item setups, cost tiers, and production paths are optimized for accurate margin reporting.
2. Forensic Variance & Operational Analysis
- Variance Investigation: Perform "root cause" analysis on manufacturing variances. Distinguish between Routing Errors (incorrect standards) and Performance Errors (operational inefficiency) to provide actionable feedback to Production Managers.
- WIP & Inventory Valuation: Manage the full flow of costs from Raw Materials through Work-in-Process (WIP) to Finished Goods, ensuring GAAP compliance and accuracy in inventory valuation.
- CVP Analysis: Utilize Cost-Volume-Profit analysis to advise executives on break-even points for new product lines or facility investments.
3. Strategic Shop-Floor Partnership
- Gemba-Focused Accounting: Partner directly with Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain. You are expected to be present on the production floor to understand the physical drivers of cost and waste.
- Margin Intelligence: Advise executive leadership on costing strategies, identifying "hidden" costs in production routings and recommending process changes to maximize net profit.
Requirements
- Discrete Manufacturing Expert: 5+ years of dedicated cost accounting experience specifically within a discrete manufacturing environment.
- BOM & Routing Proficiency: Proven experience building, auditing, and rolling up costs within a complex routing structure.
- Systems Power User: Advanced proficiency in ERP logic; Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or NAV is strongly preferred. Experience with SAP or Oracle is a plus.
- Data Modeling: Advanced Excel skills (Power Query, PivotTables) to handle large-scale data validation.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. CMA or CPA is highly desirable.
