Originally opened by Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center as an extension of its mission, it is now a patient-owned and operated organization serving more than 50,000 children and adults annually. The Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas employs more than 700 professionals and support staff at 18 locations throughout Crawford, Cherokee, Labette, Linn, Montgomery, Allen and Bourbon counties, and Ottawa County in Oklahoma.  The Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas is governed by a 12-member Board of Directors which includes patients and community representatives. Medicare, Medicaid, KanCare and private insurance are accepted. Discounted rates for services are available for those meeting financial assistance guidelines. No-one is refused care due to inability to pay.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Inspire Health Program Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Inspire Health Foundation Director to support the planning and organization of student experience and learning programs. This position serves as a liaison for schools, students, and internal resources to create valuable student experiences. This position provides assistance with a variety of learning experiences, including youth camps, student shadowing and precepting, scholarships, and community-based education initiatives. The Assistant promotes and supports inspiring interest in healthcare careers. 

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Organizes and supports high-quality student experiences, including camps, exploration days, conferences, and other educational experiences. Responsible for all aspects of the programs including scheduling, registration, communication, materials, and on-site coordination. 
  2. Build and maintain positive relationships with students and internal resources to create a positive learning environment supporting exploration of healthcare careers. 
  3. Serve as the primary point of contact for high school and undergraduate shadowing and clinical rotations arrangements. 
  4. Collaborates with internal teams, healthcare professionals, educators, families and community partners to provide a fun, educational, and meaningful student experience.
  5. Collect participant feedback and evaluations to evaluate programs offered and how to improve the student experience. 
  6. Assists with administrative duties related to the Inspire Health Foundation scholarship opportunities, including submission processes, applicant communication, selection committee meeting scheduling, and tracking of recipients.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma required. Associate’s degree preferred.
  2. Experience in working with students of all ages, planning and overseeing events, creating and presenting presentations preferred.
  3. Must possess a valid driver’s license, as travel is required. Must maintain driving standards- no more than 2 minor or 1 major driving violations within a 3-year lookback period.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  2. Communicates through appropriate channels. Use proper chain of command.
  3. Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.
  4. Must be computer literate, especially with Microsoft Office products and be able to use the Internet.
  5. Must be able to maintain good inter-personal relationship with co-workers and other members of the team and the organization.
  6. Provide customer service in accordance to the organization’s mission.
  7. Be courteous and respectful when interacting with patients and family members.
  8. Maintain confidentiality in accordance to organization’s policy and procedures.
  9. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  10. Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high demand environment. 
  11. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, educators, and employees.
  12. Ability to communicate with and present to all ages Pre-K to Adult.


WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit up to entire shift; use hands and fingers to operate computer keyboard, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand. During IHF events, long periods of standing, walking, bending, and stooping is required. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Computer work is frequent. Good lighting and comfortable temperature of ventilation at all times. Travel is a requirement of the position.
