Description
Provides academic and office support duties for the Upward Bound Summer Program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides academic and clerical support to Upward Bound summer program staff.
- Provides academic interventions to program participants.
- Assists teachers in core academic and enrichment areas.
- Enters daily attendance data in the database. Contact applicants and parents, as needed.
- Actively monitors students during arrivals, passing periods, and dismissals.
- Monitors program participants during lab hour, restroom breaks and cultural activities.
- Covers academic sessions until coverage arrives.
- Preps meals and spaces for program participants.
- Assists summer teacher and program administrator with copying, laminating, sorting, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Summer Program Administrator (or designee).
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work performed under general supervision. Reports directly to the Summer Program Administrator (or designee).

Requirements
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Two (2) years of college (60 college hours) OR Thirty (30) college hours AND one year of work experience tutoring high school students or general office experience OR two years of work-related experience is required.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Preference will be given to individuals that have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the project’s targeted population.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Ability to work independently to organize, set priorities, and meet deadlines with general supervision. Ability to establish and maintain relationships and partnerships with school staff and participants. Evidence of strong organizational and professional skills. Must possess proficient computer skills. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is strongly preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work-related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers, and presentation materials. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development are required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
