About the Role

We are looking for staff to join our team as Eureka! Summer Camp Facilitators. The Girls Inc. Eureka! Program is a free and unique five-year college readiness program that provides girls with a gentle introduction to STEM, personal development, sports, mentorship, career exploration. Girls commit to the program for five years, preparing them for the next step in their education after high school. Eureka Summer Camp is unique because it:

  • Engages      girls in informal STEM education through hands-on activities and field      trips.
  • Places      girls on a college campus to reinforce the importance of higher education.
  • Plays      an important role in the “cradle to career” education pipeline in North      and South Omaha

Summer Programming Structure

June – Eureka Summer Camp (University of Nebraska Omaha)

Eureka! Summer Camp:

Eureka! girls will experience a four-week summer camp at University of Nebraska Omaha, engaging in STEM, & personal development. They will also participate in regular group sports, individual sports, and swimming. Girls who do not know how to swim will have the opportunity to learn. Each week will end with a STEM-focused field trip.

*Camp dates are June 1 through June 26.*

July – Internship Support

Following camp, staff will help support girls participating in Eureka internship placements. Facilitators will assist with coordination, supervision, and transportation of girls to and from internship sites when needed.

Job duties:

  • Provide      simple activities to keep girls engaged during transitions or during free      time.
  • Ensure      that Girls Inc. is a welcoming place for girls.
  • Use      a warm tone with girls.
  • Encourage      girls’ strengths and curiosity.
  • Celebrate      girls’ successes.
  • Express      confidence in a classroom setting.
  • Maintain      a productive classroom by utilizing appropriate student management      techniques and working with staff team to address classroom challenges and      any challenging behaviors from girls.
  • Provide      a safe environment for girls.
  • Assisting      with safety procedures and drills.
  • Assisting      the staff team with maintaining a safe environment for girls to play and      learn.
  • Participating      in all required trainings.
  • Participate      in staff development opportunities when appropriate.
  • Serve      as a role model for girls with regards to social skills, communication,      and conflict resolution.
  • Be      ready to step in and assist in any classroom, on a transportation route,      on a field trip, or in any other capacity necessary based upon staffing      levels and day-to-day needs during the Eureka! camp.
  • Have      good communication with supervisor regarding any concerns regarding girls.

Transportation Responsibilities

• Safely transport girls to and from Eureka internship placements, program activities, and field trips using a Girls Inc. vehicle when required.
• Ensure all transportation policies and safety procedures are followed.
• Conduct basic vehicle checks before transporting girls and report any concerns immediately.
• Maintain accurate transportation logs when required.


Marginal Functions:

Other related job duties and projects as assigned.


Requirements

  

Qualifications:

  • Must submit to and be cleared by background check reviews.
  • Must like and relate to children. Preference given to candidates with      experience working with children in a structured setting.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid driver's license.

Equipment/Software Use:

  • Computer– basic skills in word and excel
  • Classroom tools and supplies as part of program delivery

Physical Requirements and Working Environment:

  • Must be able to sit/stand/walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift 15 – 20 lbs.
  • Able to communicate, to hear clearly, and see clearly.
  • High energy required to work with teens.
  • Some programming with girls is outside.

Schedule:

Summer hours average 40 hours per week between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm Monday through Friday.

Camp dates are June 1 through June 2726

Optional opportunity to stay on as center facilitator through end of summer programming (August) if preferred

Job Types: Full-time, Seasonal
