JOB SUMMARY
The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is seeking a dependable and compassionate Kennel Technician (Part-time) to assist with the daily care, cleaning, and handling of animals housed at the Animal Services Department. This position plays a critical role in maintaining animal health, facility cleanliness, and public safety while supporting the mission of humane animal care and control.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Clean, sanitize, and maintain kennels, cages, isolation areas, and common spaces.
- Feed, water, and monitor animals according to established department protocols and schedules.
- Observe animals for signs of illness, injury, or behavioral concerns and report findings to staff.
- Assist with animal handling, movement, restraint, and transport as needed.
- Provide basic care such as bathing, exercising, and enrichment activities.
- Maintain accurate daily logs related to animal care and cleaning schedules.
- Follow all safety, sanitation, and disease control procedures.
- Assist the public in a courteous and professional manner when required.
- Assist Animal Control Officers as needed.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of animal behavior and handling techniques.
- Knowledge of relevant county and state laws and ordinances.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in customer service and interpersonal relations.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Skill in providing compassionate care to animals.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while typically sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping.
- The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes sense of smell.
- The work is typically performed in an office, a stockroom, a noisy place, or outdoors and occasionally in cold or inclement weather.
- The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease and contagious or infectious diseases. Work requires use of protective devices such as masks, googles, and gloves.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience working with animals in a shelter, kennel, veterinary clinic, farm, or similar environment preferred.
- Must have physical ability to work with dogs and cats of various breeds and sizes.
SALARY & SCHEDULE
This is a part-time position working up to 28 hours per week at a pay rate of $16.40 per hour. The position is not eligible for benefits.
