Introduction:

The Aga Khan University was found in 1983 as Pakistan’s first private university; Aga Khan University is a not-for-profit institution and an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. Starting in 2000, the University expanded to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom and Afghanistan. AKU began life as a health-sciences university.  

The Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB) is the first private-sector university-led trans-provincial Board (awarding body) in Pakistan established through the Ordinance of the Government of Pakistan. The Board offers high-quality examinations for Secondary School (grades 9th and 10th - SSC) and Higher Secondary School (grades 11th and 12th - HSSC/ FSC) qualifications for public and private schools across Pakistan. The Board also offers a Middle School Programme (MSP) for grades 6th–8th students and its registered schools engage a globally accepted approach, Project-Based Learning (PBL) to implement the MSP. PBL is considered as a foundation of the AKU-EB MSP, helping schools foster a sense of purpose and leadership in young learners.

At the heart of AKU-EB’s mission is to shift teaching and learning away from rote learning and move towards higher order thinking, preparing students for higher education and lifelong learning. Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Lead Specialist (Teacher Development & Institutional Engagement) in the Examination Board.

Responsibilities:

You will be responsible to:

  • develop and implement a structured provincial teacher development plan aligned with AKU-EB’s academic and assessment philosophy
  • design and conduct high-quality workshops for teachers, coordinators, and academic leaders in affiliated and prospective schools
  • conduct need assessments to identify gaps in pedagogy, curriculum implementation, and assessment practices
  • facilitate classroom observations and structured academic feedback to enhance instructional effectiveness
  • build and mentor a provincial pool of master trainers to ensure scalability of teacher development initiatives
  • integrate assessment literacy, cognitive rigor, and higher-order thinking practices into teacher training modules
  • monitor and evaluate training impact through measurable indicators and follow-up engagement
  • maintain a repository of training materials, manuals, and implementation reports
  • collaborate with Assessment and Curriculum teams to ensure coherence between training and examination standards
  • serve as AKU-EB’s academic focal person for affiliated institutions in Punjab
  • develop and sustain professional relationships with school principals, academic heads, and governing bodies
  • provide academic advisory support to schools on programme implementation and compliance
  • facilitate structured dialogue forums for school leaders to strengthen institutional engagement
  • address institutional concerns in coordination with Head Office departments
  • identify and engage prospective institutions aligned with AKU-EB’s quality standards
  • conduct orientation sessions for potential affiliates highlighting academic distinctiveness of AKU-EB
  • provide informed insights on regional education trends, competitor activity, and regulatory developments
  • contribute to sustainable affiliation growth targets in Punjab
  • represent AKU-EB at regional education forums and stakeholder engagements
  • promote assessment literacy among teachers to align classroom practices with AKU-EB examination standards
  • support post-result analysis discussions with schools to improve academic outcomes
  • contribute to development of training modules related to assessment design and item-writing principles
  • participate in moderation panels, research initiatives, or assessment-related projects as assigned
  • uphold examination integrity, confidentiality, and compliance standards in all engagements.


Requirements:

You should have: 

  • master’s degree in education, Social Sciences, Educational Leadership, or related discipline
  • minimum 8–10 years of progressive experience in teacher development, academic leadership, or institutional capacity building
  • demonstrated experience in conducting large-scale teacher training workshops
  • experience working with examination systems or curriculum implementation preferred
  • strong familiarity with Punjab’s educational ecosystem
  • strong facilitation and adult learning expertise
  • ability to influence and engage senior institutional stakeholders
  • strategic thinking with growth orientation
  • strong analytical and reporting skills
  • ability to work independently across districts
  • high level of professional maturity and discretion
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Urdu
  • commitment to AKU’s values and academic integrity.
