Nurse Tutor

Description
The Nurse Tutor provides structured academic support to students enrolled in designated nursing courses by reinforcing course content, promoting effective study strategies, and facilitating collaborative learning. The Nurse Tutor works closely with faculty and academic leadership to help improve student comprehension, retention, confidence, and academic performance across the nursing programs. This role is designed to supplement classroom instruction, not replace it, and supports the college’s commitment to student success and a student-centered learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Facilitate regularly scheduled tutoring sessions for students enrolled in assigned nursing courses.
• Review and reinforce key course concepts as presented by faculty.
• Guide students in the development of critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and test-taking strategies appropriate to the course level.
• Promote active learning through discussion, practice questions, case application, concept review, and structured group activities.
• Assist students in identifying effective study habits, time management skills, and learning strategies.
• Maintain familiarity with course objectives, schedules, exams, and major assignments in assigned courses.
• Collaborate with course faculty and academic leadership to identify high-risk content areas and student support needs.
• Monitor student attendance and participation in tutoring sessions.
• Maintain accurate records and submit required reports, session logs, and feedback as requested.
• Refer students to additional academic or student support resources when appropriate.
• Provide students with academic support and guidance, utilizing technology for academic alerts and interventions as directed.
• Support student retention and success through full participation in Las Vegas College retention initiatives, utilizing all system tools provided.
• Support a positive, respectful, and student-centered learning environment.
• Maintain professional boundaries and uphold institutional standards, policies, and confidentiality requirements.
• Maintain current health requirements as required by the program.
• Participate in campus activities, in-service training, and professional development as directed by campus leadership.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Education and Experience Requirements:
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program; Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred.
• Strong academic performance in the subject area being supported.
• Prior tutoring, peer mentoring, teaching assistant, or instructional support experience preferred.
• Current nursing licensure and clinical or academic experience may be preferred or required depending on course assignment.
