The Mission of Voluntary Action Center is committed to providing high quality services that address the basic transportation and nutrition needs of its community. VAC was incorporated in 1974. The organization is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of representatives from communities throughout DeKalb County. Voluntary Action Center is here to support the needs of the members of DeKalb, LaSalle, Putnam, Bureau and Kendall Counties. Over the years those needs have grown exponentially. At VAC it is our goal to ensure the health and wellness of those who need us. Our services include: * Meals on Wheels provides hot nutritional meals to the elderly, disabled, and homebound. * Nutritional Programs such as lunches, for local day care providers and senior citizens. * TransVAC provides rides for local seniors, the disabled, and general public. Within DeKalb County we also provide local bussing services such as the Green Line, the Blue Line and the Kishwaukee College line. * MedVAC provides rides to medical appointments, hospitals, and testing services. * Premier Meals Catering offers catering services for any event. Let us cater your next event and in return, you’ll be helping provide nutritious meals to the homebound. 100% of all profits from Premier Meals Catering support Meals on Wheels, providing nutritious meals to the homebound in our community for over 20 years. As a Vehicle Operator, you play an important role in that mission. You will provide safe, reliable, and compassionate paratransit services by operating agency vehicles and delivering friendly transportation that helps community members stay connected and supported. We are currently seeking a part-time team member to work up to 29 hours per week.


DUTIES

· Safely operate agency vehicles under various road and weather conditions.

· Assist passengers boarding, riding, and exiting vehicles.

· Secure mobility devices and provide passenger assistance as needed.

· Communicate with dispatch regarding routes and passenger movement.

· Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.

· Maintain accurate logs (trips, mileage, fuel, fares, and hours).

· Deliver excellent customer service while representing VAC’s mission and values.

· Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

 QUALIFICATIONS

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Valid Illinois Driver’s License with a clean driving record.

· At least 21 years of age.

· Ability to pass DOT physical, background check, and drug screening.

· Public or community transportation experience and experience working with seniors or individuals with disabilities preferred.

· Physical ability to assist passengers and mobility devices safely.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This role involves driving for extended periods, assisting passengers, and occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Operators must meet DOT medical standards and be able to lift, push, or pull equipment and mobility devices as needed.
