JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Ambulatory and Ancillary Services, the MRI Technologist will perform MRI testing and treatment in accordance with JCAHO, federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Communicates with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. Position requires self-motivation, creativity, and capabilities to function in a semi-autonomous role within a fast paced and dynamic environment.
Job Qualifications
Minimum Level of Education: Education level equivalent to completion high school, and completion of an accredited radiological technology program.
Formal Training: Completion of Accredited Radiological Technology Program.
Licensure, Certification, Registration: Must have and maintain a current BLS CPR and current unencumbered membership with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and be able to satisfy State of Georgia, JCAHO, and Federal Requirements, or the equivalent thereof.
Work Experience: Six months to one-year experience in healthcare MRI is preferred.
Tools and Equipment Used:
Calculator, personal computer, telephone, facsimile machine, paper shredder, copier, printer, and MRI
Requirements
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
1. Ensures adherence to proper infection control, OSHA and safety standards.
2. Comply with established safety precautions at all times.
3. Participate in discharge planning, development and implementation of patient care plans, patient care plans, patient assessments etc., as necessary.
4. Interview patients or family members as necessary.
5. Perform administrative requirements, as directed, such as completing necessary forms, reports, and data input, filing, and faxing.
6. Ensure safety and comfort of patients while going to and from MRI, Radiology Department, and Hospital.
7. Coordinate MRI with other departments.
8. Perform MRI exams on patient’s as necessary
9. Brief patient or family of procedures involved in MRI exams and prepare necessary equipment.
10. Maintain a current file of patients treated on an in-patient/out-patient basis.
11. Act as receptionist to patients for the MRI.
12. Maintain treatment records, patient files, and progress notes, as required.
13. Recommend equipment and supply needs.
14. Ensure that the Business Office receives charges for radiology exams rendered to patients.
15. Ensure that the MRI is maintained in a clean and safe manner for patient comfort and convenience.
16. Reassure patient before and during MRI exams.
17. Prepare the patient for exam by dress/position and administer radiology exam in accordance with established policies and procedures.
18. Produce MRI from positioning patient to filming and transfer of DICOM images to PACS.
19. Administer IV contrast as ordered.
20. Coordinate with other facilities to retrieve or send radiographs or reports.
21. Assist in the distribution of transcribed radiology reports.
22. Act as a preceptor for new team members.
23. Participate in patient education, including family members when appropriate.
24. Participate in continuing education.
