Summary
Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley is seeking a passionate, hands-on educator to serve as our Director of Education (Curriculum & Instruction). This role leads the development and implementation of engaging literacy and Health & Life Skills programming (including social-emotional learning, SEL) across TK–8 club sites.
This is a working director role, ideal for a multiple-subject-credentialed teacher who is ready to expand their impact beyond a single classroom. The Director will design curriculum, train staff, and support program quality across multiple sites, working in close partnership with the STEM Director and other program leaders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Leadership & Curriculum Development
- Lead the design and continuous improvement of literacy and SEL programming across TK–8
- Strengthen and support Power Hour through engaging literacy-based strategies
- Develop high-quality, age-appropriate lesson structures that are engaging, accessible, and aligned with program goals across TK–8
- Ensure programming is inclusive and accessible for English Language Learners (ELL)
- Design and support culminating showcase experiences that highlight youth learning through presentations, projects, and skill demonstrations
Staff Training & Support
- Train Youth Development Professionals (YDPs) in literacy strategies, SEL practices, and classroom management
- Model engaging activities and provide hands-on coaching across club sites
- Build staff confidence in leading structured, high-quality learning experiences
Site Support & Implementation
- Visit club sites to support program delivery and ensure consistency
- Help establish strong routines, transitions, and positive learning environments
- Support programming with developmentally appropriate practices
Collaboration & Integration
- Partner with other program leads to integrate literacy and communication into all core areas
- Partner with program teams to plan and execute organization-wide showcase events that celebrate youth voice, creativity, and skill development
- Contribute to organization-wide initiatives, showcases, and program evaluation
- Support documentation of youth outcomes and program impact
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Valid Multiple Subject Teaching Credential
- 3+ years of teaching experience with elementary-aged children
- Strong background in literacy instruction and classroom management
- Experience supporting diverse learners and English Language Learners
- BA/BS Degree
Preferred
- Experience in after-school or expanded learning programs
- Background in social-emotional learning (SEL) or youth development
- Experience training, mentoring, or coaching staff
- Bilingual (Spanish or Mandarin) a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Frequent standing and walking
- Ability to speak and hear
- Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds of school supplies or recreational equipment waist height)
- Hear and understand speech at normal levels
- Speak so that others may understand at normal levels
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Purchase supplies and equipment.
- Work with staff on special events to carry out clubhouse programs
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Boys & Girls Clubs are often stressful, busy, and noisy environments. The Director is expected to work in situations where many member and facilities-related activities take place at the same time.
