We are now looking for a suitable person to fill the following position in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences:



Course Code: NURS 3408NED

Course Title: Communication (Mental Health Care)

The appointee will assist the development of NURS 3408NED: Communication (Mental Health Care) for the School of Nursing and Health Sciences on a freelance project basis. The medium of development is English. 

Background

NURS 3408 NED is a 3-credit unit course spanning in one term. It is a higher level course in the Bachelor of Nursing (part-time) programme, designed basically for in-service registered nurses in Hong Kong. This course aims to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of communication principles, therapeutic communication techniques, counselling skills, psychotherapies. It focuses on the practical application of these concepts in mental health nursing, ensuring that students are well-prepared to effectively support and engage with individuals experiencing mental health challenges.

 

This course will cover the following topics: fundamental concept of communication, effective communication skills in healthcare setting, counselling theories and the application of psychotherapies.

 

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1.  describe the fundamental concepts of communication;

  2. apply effective communication skills in healthcare settings;

  3. utilize counselling theories in healthcare settings;

  4.  analyze the concepts in psychotherapies and their application in mental health nursing.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will be responsible mainly for the following:

  • Revising the existing syllabus and course contents as directed;

  • Developing updated learning materials;

  • Developing assessment items (including specimen paper, assignment questions, examination paper and their corresponding marking schemes) to enhance students’ learning experience; and

  • Preparing a course guide for the re-developed course.

 

Candidates

Candidates are expected to possess the following:

  • A higher degree in Nursing;

  • Teaching experience in nursing or a health-related discipline;

  • Good command of written English; 

  • Preferably with experience in teaching distance learning and / or part time courses; and

  • Previous involvement in developing course materials for higher institution is a definite advantage.

 

Terms and Conditions for Appointment

Successful candidate(s) will be appointed on a freelance project basis.
