About the Role

Summary: The Storyland Maintenance Technician is responsible for the general maintenance of Storyland facility including grounds and exhibits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned

  • Prepare Storyland for daily opening to the public.
  • Performs daily walk through to ensure all exhibits are in working condition.
  • Performs general maintenance on Storyland exhibits.
  • Daily cleaning and repair of fountains including pumps and nozzles.
  • Performs water feature maintenance to include chlorination, draining and pressure washing fountain and pool areas.
  • Performs light carpentry repair of facility buildings and structures when necessary.
  • Performs general property maintenance such as light landscaping and property upkeep and cleaning.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of park grounds.
  • Ability to lift100lbs.
  • Ability to safely operate company vehicles.
  • Assists managers, mechanics, and general staff when needed.
  • Communicates daily with supervisors on projects.
  • Communicates with supervisory staff regarding any potentially hazardous safety conditions.
  • Provides exceptional guest service, answers any guest questions and assists park guests when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and education requirements

  • High School diploma or GED and three (3) years related experience.
  • A valid Louisiana driver’s license.
  • Must be able to use power tools and possess basic carpentry skills.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical functions preferred, but not necessary.
  • Must be a self-starter and take initiative on identifying and following through on repairs needed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to constantly required to move from one worksite to another, communicate with others to exchange information, use repetitive motions with the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, operate machinery or power tools, and operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment. 

The employee will be required to occasionally climb ladders, stairs, and the like, move in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods, and assess the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.  The employee is required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, grasp, talk, or hear. 

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data, viewing a computer, reading, visual inspection, operating machines, and using measuring devices, and or assembly of parts at distances close to the eyes.  The employee must be able to perceive sounds at a normal speaking level without or with correction. The ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discrimination in sound is required. 

The physical demands will require the employee to constantly lift or move objects up to 20 lbs. and occasionally lift or move objects up to 100 lbs. or more. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, low and high temperatures, and rain and wind, and occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; explosives and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is loud. Hazardous conditions may occur.
